This is Dita Kraus. She was the librarian for the world’s smallest library. Born in Prague in 1929, when she was only a teenager she survived both Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camps. In Auschwitz, Dita was placed in the Children’s Block where another prisoner had smuggled in secret books and the Children’s Block was turned into an illegal school. It was Dita’s job to keep track of the books in the small library.
Dita survived World War II and eventually moved out of Europe. In her life she was an artist and a writer, publishing her memoir ‘A Delayed Life’ in 2020. Dita passed last Saturday on October 18 at the age of 96 in Jerusalem. She lived a long and full life and will be missed by family and friends.

Today we lost a truly incredible woman. Dr. Jane Goodall passed in California due to natural causes at the age of 91. Her work as a primatologist brought new information to the world, as well as her work contributing to animal welfare and conservation. She will be missed.
