REMEMBERING YVONNE DE CARLO ❤️
Born September 1, 1922, Yvonne De Carlo built a remarkable Hollywood career that lasted more than six decades.
For millions of television viewers, she will forever be remembered as Lily Munster—the elegant, devoted and wonderfully unforgettable matriarch of The Munsters.
But De Carlo was already an established Hollywood star long before she moved into 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
Her film career included memorable appearances in classics such as Criss Cross, Band of Angels and Cecil B. DeMille’s epic The Ten Commandments, in which she portrayed Sephora opposite Charlton Heston.
Decades later, she continued appearing on screen.
In 1991, De Carlo played Aunt Rosa in Oscar, starring Sylvester Stallone. Parts of the production were filmed at Disney-MGM Studios in Florida after a fire damaged the original sets at Universal Studios in California.
She later appeared as Norma in Disney’s television movie The Barefoot Executive, released in 1995—her final released screen performance.
Yvonne De Carlo died on January 8, 2007, at the age of 84.
Yet for generations who grew up watching classic television, she never really disappeared.
One glimpse of Lily Munster—with that unmistakable streak of white in her dark hair—and suddenly it feels like you're sitting in front of the television decades ago.
More than a century after her birth, Yvonne De Carlo remains part of Hollywood and television history.
