There’s no telling what kind of chaos led to Rocky’s original owner surrendering him to an animal shelter at just a year old, but it’s a good thing they did! After being adopted by the Tybee Island Police Department in 2020, Rocky became the first dog ever to work for our agency.

Of course, he isn’t your typical police dog. Instead of sniffing out bombs, drugs, or bad guys, Rocky’s whole job is to make people smile! For more than 6 years, he has proudly served the residents and guests of the island as our Public Relations K9.

With friends and followers across the world, he’s been invited to visit schools, churches, summer camps, nursing homes, and even a RV rally! When he’s not attending community events, he can often be found cheering up his teammates, or meeting new people on the street.

During the course of his decorated career, Rocky has also helped raise donations for several charities, including The Georgia Police K9 Foundation, Irondog K9 International, Friends of Oatland Island, Toys for Tots, One Love Animal Rescue, and Hugaroo, Inc.

Last year, Rocky’s story took 2nd place in the national “Remember Me Thursday” contest, scoring 100 pet toys, 1,000lbs of dog food, and $1,500 for his former shelter, the Humane Society for Greater Savannah.

🚨🌊 Our Green Team is hitting the streets!

You may see our team out and about visiting Tybee businesses and delivering Georgia’s Coast Is Not an Ashtray beverage coasters.

Why coasters? Because cigarette butts are the #1 most littered item in the nation—and they’re more than just an eyesore. Cigarette filters are made with plastic and can leach toxic chemicals into our waterways when tossed on the ground, into storm drains or directly into the water.

Through this regional initiative, we’re working with coastal communities and local businesses to raise awareness and encourage everyone to keep cigarette butts out of our streets, waterways and beaches.

Small actions make a big difference in protecting the place we all love. 💚🌊

🌈✨ A little Tybee magic after the rain!

There’s nothing quite like a rainbow stretching over our beautiful Tybee Island Lighthouse. 🌈🏖️ A reminder that even after a storm, there’s always something beautiful waiting on the other side.

We’re grateful for moments like this that make Tybee so special. 💙
