Pictured are one of my favorites, the F***y Kemble Silver in garnet - a 925 silver setting is paired with a baroque rice pearl and Rhodolite garnet. We also offer this design in cubic zirconia or blue topaz, or set in gold vermeil paired with citrine, lapis, garnet, topaz or amethyst.

Shashi started designing jewelry in 1964, approximately 35 years before the internet started to bring the collections of museums online and made them more accessible. In those days replicating an artifact either meant visiting a museum and photographing a find personally, or sourcing it from a book.

One of the most interesting things when I return home are the thousands of books littered throughout the house, many still with post-it notes and dog-eared pages as improvised bookmarks linking to a topic of interest or in some-cases an idea for a design. The diversity of subject matter is incredible. Represented in this photo (which is just a smattering of books from the room I’m in) are obvious subjects like Egyptian tombs, Byzantine art, Tiffany sculpture, but also obscure and seemingly unrelated ones…buttons, house plants, hummingbirds.

Knowing the breadth of pieces in our collection I find it remarkable how many designs my father crafted, but also incredible that he didn’t create more.

💎 Vintage Laurel Burch Small Tian-Tsui (點翠) Flower Gold-Vermeil Studs - $154.95 💎

Known as 點翠 or 点翠 to the Chinese, Tian-Tsui translates to "dotting with kingfishers". Its a traditional practice in which tiny kingfisher feathers were cut to size and incorporated into sterling silver and silver gilt jewelry to create a dazzling fluorescent blue finish. The technique was mostly lost with the Chinese cultural revolution in the 1940's.

The revival earrings here are vintage from the 1970's - they were designed by Laurel Burch and crafted by hand by old masters of the technique. These earrings were made using gold plated brass and kingfisher feathers, they measure about 1/2" tall.
