Vandy 1 is the tactical callsign the US Navy assigned to its 1 Navy Blue/Black night test aircraft beginning in the early 1960s. These aircraft flew originally with VX-4 & 5 "The Evaluators". These squadrons had a compliment of 30+ aircraft but only one carried the special paint scheme. Tail logos varied with the appearance of the rabbit head "Black Bunny" in 1969. Hefner and with the debut of th

e PB DC-9 "Big Bunny" the US Navy switched to the official PBE rabbit head. In 1993 VX-4 & 5 were combined into VX-9 " The Vampires" at NAS China Lake,Ca. with a permanent F-14 det at NAS Pt Mugu, Ca. Over the years Vandy 1 has been assigned to some of the most lengendary fighter aircraft in the Navy's inventory to include the F4-Phantom II, F-14 Tomcat, F/A-18 Hornet, and the newest F-18EF Rhino. From time to time with the changing political tides in the Navy and the advent of extreme political correctness in the civilian leadership the rabbit head is replaced with the vampire bat tail code aka The "Bat and Bolts". VX-9 displays both tail codes in this modern climate or intil the next round of PC witchhunts.

It's officially Air Fest Week in Culpeper!!!

Our STEM Program will be held on Wednesday and Thursday for Culpeper 5th graders.

We will celebrate our sponsors at Sponsor Night Lights this Friday evening with our CTEC culinary students at The Blaze Kitchen.

Saturday is the BIG SHOW with vendors, static displays, RC modelers, and of course our incredible performers.

And we finish the weekend off on Sunday with another thank you to our sponsors with special sponsor rides.
