James Maurice Jones : The Art Fiend

I was born and raised in BK NY. Drawn to the arts at an early age, I started sketching at the age of 6. Growing up, I took a liking to graffiti and street performers. It amazed me how free and open it all seemed. I learned to appreciate diverse cultures and lifestyles. Emulating many of the artists from the neighborhood, I eventually developed my own unique sty

le. Art is my escape. Thru creating, I am able to breathe life into my inspiration… it’s my breath. When I create, I feel complete. I’m able to express my thoughts and bring out the beauty in everything that inspires me. Many people miss the small things in life. Thru my art, I’m able to show appreciation of the arts, nature, and myself. I am inspired by life. It shows you so much, and yet many of us choose not to stop and admire what is right in front of us. I focus on creating beauty. The arts have always provided me with a sense of peace. Thru my art, I am able to express my deepest emotions. I get to express how the world looks through my eyes. My love for humanity and diversity emanates from my art. Like music, it crosses all boundaries and racial barriers. Art allows us to reach plateaus that words can never explain. For a long time I did not claim to be an artist. It was something I did as a hobby until I noticed that I possessed a gift that was unique. I am able to visualize ideas and concepts that many people cannot see, and with this gift I am able to create. My creativity never left me - it just chose to mask itself in my day to day. As a project manager and designer, I displayed it through the ideas of others. My creativity enabled me to design renovation spaces and homes. It allowed me to understand the visions of others and bring their ideas to fruition. Claiming the title of artist, I share with you my own vision. I would like my art to inspire others to love, to appreciate the small things in life, and to live each day like it were your last. Live each day to the fullest.

Today in : Alvin Ailey transcends beyond the world of dance. When you think of Alvin Ailey you can't help but think of the word ART. The movement of dance inspires me thus it was only natural for me to capture the grace, color, vibrancy, and strength of the Ailey experience on canvas. Spotlight on Ailey: https://goo.gl/8Q61jN
