A brand new scientific paper just dropped:
A diverse ichnofauna of small coprolites from the Eocene Lillebælt and Røsnæs Clay Formations, Hinge claypit, Denmark

And somehow… they named a new type of coprolite, or fossilized p**p, after me!

50 million years old. From a deep ocean. Packed with fish bones.

Huge thanks to Adrian P. Hunt, Kent Albin Nielsen, and Jesper Milàn for the honor.

Meet Betty Croc-ker 🐊💩
This 52-million-year-old crocodile from the Green River Formation in southwestern Wyoming preserves fossilized p**p with fish bones… and you can actually see it pushing up through the scutes (armor).
A gut-level snapshot of one of this croc’s last meals, frozen in time.

There is a massive industry turning raw Burmese amber into beads and jewelry every single day. One of the problems? Pieces with real scientific value are being carved far faster than they are being studied.

In a Bangkok market, a merchant showed me a tray of raw amber chunks destined to become beads and pendants. In one piece, I noticed a thin vein of tiny black specks, each under 1mm (0.04 inches) long. Under my handheld microscope, it turned out to be fossilized insect frass (p**p), most likely produced by wood-feeding insects such as beetle larvae or early termites.

The seller saw future jewelry. I saw a 100-million-year-old behavioral record and a chance to tell the story of the prehistoric past, including the fascinating world of fossilized turds. So I bought it for the Poozeum before it could be drilled and polished away.

It's important to note that not every piece of amber belongs in a museum. But some deserve documentation, study, and public display before they disappear. The conversation around Burmese amber needs balance, context, and facts. Transparency matters. Education matters. Supporting supply chains that reduce harm and benefit local researchers, families, and communities in Myanmar should be part of that bigger picture.

You can see this incredible piece at the Poozeum when we reopen February 25, 2026.
