A recipient of the James Renwick Alliance’s Master of the Medium Award, Mary Giles transformed materials such as waxed linen, porcupine quills, metal, silk, and copper wire into evocative sculptures that balance strength and fragility. In Anointed Procession, linked human-like figures invite reflection on connection, hierarchy, and the complexities of human relationships.

arttextstyle: Art Assembled: New Work in May

This month’s featured works explored the expressive power of material — from linen, h**p, and reed to flax, copper, and handwoven cotton. Through weaving, sculpture, and layered fiber constructions, the artists transformed natural materials into works reflecting memory, landscape, uncertainty, and human connection.

Dans le creux de ta main (In the Hollow of Your Hand) by Stéphanie Jacques weaves copper and flax into a sculpture shaped as much by space as by form. Openings, shadows, and transparency become part of the work itself—what Mary Butcher describes as voids “rich with meaning.”

Happy Birthday, Jeannet Leendertse!

Please join us in wishing artist Jeannet Leendertse a very happy birthday. Having grown up on the Dutch shore, Leendertse's fiber work can be recognized for its response to the rugged coast of Maine, where she now lives. We are honored to be able to work with Leendertse. arttextstyle: Process Notes: Aby Mackie — A Sense of Place

In a former bread factory in Poblenou, textiles, family life, and found objects exist side by side. Working with discarded linens and domestic fabrics, Mackie transforms worn materials into layered works that preserve traces of their past lives — stains, repairs, frayed edges, and all.

Part studio, part home, the space reflects her practice: tactile, evolving, imperfect, and deeply connected to memory, history, and transformation.

Happy Birthday, Sue Lawty!

Please join us in wishing artist Sue Lawty a very happy birthday. Lawty is a highly experienced artist, designer, and teacher, whose work is in collections worldwide. Her work is rooted in an emotional, spiritual, and physical engagement with the land. Subtleties of material and construction are explored intuitively and meticulously to build particular textual languages.
