Artist Tam Le (born July 8, 1949 in Saigon, Vietnam) grew up in Saigon and witnessing two decades of war; was from a family with innate talent for painting. Tam’s father was a talented ar
tist, studying at the prestige Paris Academy of Fine Arts. At the age of 15, Tam who inherited his father’s talent and passion for paintings and fine arts studied and read a lot of art articles sent from France. At this time, Tam attended Middle School of Art under the Republic of Vietnam. At 18 years old, Tam enlisted in the army for the Republic of Vietnam and was stationed in Quy Nhon. After serving in the army for two years, Tam returned back to Saigon and participated in artistic activities of the Republic of Vietnam which included poetry, singing and playing musical instruments. In 1969, Tam was taking part in the Cultural Performances, when the group was hit by bombs leading to severe injuries where Tam lost one of his legs. Living through the era of war and seeing many heartbreaking scenes, Tam often found comfort and peace in art and his passion for drawing and painting never die. After 1975, Tam’s life became a huge struggle but he never lost determination and the will to live. Finding strength and faith through his art, Tam followed his passion and continued to develop a career as an artist specializing in sculpture, water color painting and oil painting in classic Vietnamese style. As an artist, Tam also mastered skills of modern paintings using palette knife techniques to create many beautiful paintings.
