I’ve had this painting sort of half done on the easel for a while. I could see it wasn’t right - the brushwork was tight and prissy but I couldn’t see how to make it right. I think I fixed it today - and now I’m pooped!
I’m always surprised by how much energy it takes to paint and yet people who don’t paint always think this is a relaxing way to spend a few hours 🤣

A productive day! Finally feel like I finished the painting that has been calling me for months. What do you think? I love it now. Much simpler and more effective.

Today I went into the studio and spent most of the day fannying about tidying and doing admin and then suddenly, I wanted to paint.
And I wanted to paint something colourful and energetic. Not a landscape.
I squeezed some glorious colour onto my palette and then couldn’t get my tin of oil medium open 🙈 I had to borrow a young man (thanks Adam from Downstairs!) and then there was no stopping me.
The photo reference for this was taken on an overcast day but lately the sunrises have been incredible and I wanted to pay tribute to that with the vibrant oranges.
It’s in a very raw stage but I always prefer my paintings at this stage. One of these days I’ll learn how to be more ‘immediate’ and leave them when they’re like this.
I might even use it for the cover of my next book, who knows!

These look gorgeous. I’m a sucker for new materials, even though I probably have enough to open my own shop… 🤣

Cycled over to the studio - it’s a perfect day for it, long as you have plenty of warm clothes on 😁 And it’s good for my knees!
