As Joseph Conrad once said, "Caricature puts a comic face to the body of truth." During each run, the exhibition will shed light on the symbols of a nation within caricatures, and contributing artist Hassan Edilbi will cast light on the most important icons of literature, art, and politics within Egypt, (Faces From Egypt). Let's get to know these artists. More about our Caricaturists: 1.Ali Al Qahees- Saudi Arabia Ali Al Qahees is a Saudi journalist, and painter born in 1960. He is the director of Al-Riyadh newspaper in the UAE. He has a PhD in journalism and media and is well versed with the art of Caricature. Ali has received many local and regional, Gulf and Arab awards in the field of journalism and media. 2. Hasan Edalbi – Syria Hasan Edalbi was born in 1963 in Aleppo and is presently living in Dubai and working at Al Roeya newspaper as the front page cartoonist. He graduated from the Damascus University of Fine Arts in 1998 in Graphics. This body of works speaks of an artist who creates with passion and is in constant search of new ways to interpret real life through his caricatures in a light-hearted and humorous way. His figurative acrylics however are more reflective and emotional. He has worked with numerous newspapers and magazines, TV shows and many journalists, authors and critics have written about his art. Hasan has participated in and group & solo exhibitions in Damascus, Beirut, Tehran and Paris, Dubai, Cairo, Amman & Syria. 3. Richard Deverell- UK Richard has been drawing all his life. “As a young boy I used to spend many happy hours with my cousin Geoff, drawing complicated medieval battle scenes across the pages of a large desk-diary. Perhaps this laid the foundation for my future work – drawing busy pictures with lots of people and funny things going on.” Richard began his career as a graphic designer in a London studio servicing major companies and ad agencies. He began by running errands and washing pots and brushes, learning his skills from true crafts men and in a very short time became studio manager. Since going freelance he has worked for some of the world’s largest publishing houses including BBC Publications, Oxford University Press, Pearsons, Harper Collins and Usborne Books, as well as government departments and major companies like Mears Group, Pullman Hotels and P&O. His cartoons have appeared in the Radio Times, The Economist, New Musical Express and FHM magazine. Today he works on commissioned work for companies and private individuals making cartoon illustrations to celebrate birthdays, weddings and even retirements. Besides caricaturing Richard is also a gifted musician with his forte being the Blues. His love for music finds its way into his art and vise versa. 4. Satish Acharya-India Satish Acharya is a self taught professional cartoonist/caricaturist who was drawn towards caricature from his days in college when he contributed to local publications in Karnataka - India. He completed his MBA in finance, then worked in an advertising agency as an accounts executive, but soon realized that his calling was with cartooning. He got his first break as a political cartoonist in 2003 with the English tabloid Midday. Here he worked with the daily cartoon column for nine years. Today, as a professional cartoonist he contributes to Mail Today, Sify.com, Sports Illustrated, Bollywood Hungama.com, International Indian, Star of Mysore, Vishwavani, Legal Era etc. Satish’s cartoon on cricketer Phil Hughes tragedy has been shared on face book and twitter by many as are some of his other works too. The magazine Forbes India has named Satish one of the 24 bright thinkers of India. Among his other achievements Satish won the prestigious Maya Kamath cartoon award in 2015 for his cartoon on Baba Ramdev. He also has several books to his credit.
