The gallery gugging is one of the most important international venues for the presentation and creation of unspoiled, original art with its own formal language. The French artist Jean Dubuffet defined this style as art brut. For 25 years now, the gallery has been exhibiting works by the Gugging Artists and their international colleagues with the aim of making their work more visible within the framework of contemporary art and promoting previously unknown artists.

Comics have the power to communicate across language and culture, with image and text coexisting to enhance narrative.

This summer we emphasize the impact of art brut within the world of comics.

"COMICS brut" opens with a Vernissage on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7pm.

The exhibition brings together four unique voices: Basel Al-Bazzaz, Manuel Griebler, Hannes Lehner, and Didier Kassaï, whose work is shown in Austria for the very first time.

Four ways of drawing the world, sharing the authenticity of life as each artist experiences it.

Join us for the Vernissage on June 2nd, or visit from June 3rd during regular gallery hours.

On May 24, we celebrated the birthdays of two artists whose work continues to speak across decades.

Oswald Tschirtner, whose minimal figures hold silence, solitude, and a profound sense of humanity. And Jaroslav Diviš, whose practice reminds us that creativity is not a phase but a lifelong commitment.

And today, May 25th, we celebrate Nina Katschnig, director of galerie gugging, whose vision, dedication, and deep belief in artists and their work has shaped this gallery into what it is today.

Nina has spent her career advocating for Art Brut and self-taught artists at every level, from intimate gallery conversations to international art fairs. Her work is not just curatorial. It is a form of care.

Happy birthday to three people who, each in their own way, have extended the reach of art brut around the world.

Three paintings from Markos world.

In "marko djurdjevic, on the path", Marko returns again and again to the landscapes around him. Not to document them, but to feel through them.

"Attracted by the light", "Silent giants", and "Tree in the surf" are three moments from this journey.

Deep blues, heavy canopies, moving water.

A world that feels both familiar and just beyond reach.

The exhibition closes on 22 May. These works are available now in the online shop, already framed, with a certificate of authenticity.

One last evening with the work.
And with the artist.

On Wednesday, 20 May at 7pm, we invite you to the finissage of
"marko djurdjevic, on the path"
at galerie gugging.

Join Marko and Nina for a curator's tour of the exhibition as it closes.

Marko has described these works as diary entries. There is no better way to understand them than to hear directly from him, in the space, in front of his creations.

If you have not yet seen the exhibition, this is your last chance. If you have, this is a chance to see it differently.

Karoline Rosskopf was born in Austria in 1911. She was one of the few female artists working in Leo Navratil's era at Gugging, and she left behind only a small body of work. Cephalopods. Cat people. Her signature headfooter figures, genderless beings assembled from geometric forms, with distinctively stylised hair, fingers, and toes. An abstract reduction of form that feels entirely her own.

Her works are held in the Collection de l'Art Brut in Switzerland, the Lentos Art Museum, and the Hannah Rieger Collection. And yet she has historically been largely unknown. Part of the reason is practical: at the time of creation, her works were not well documented. Verifying a Rosskopf is not a simple matter. When one is confirmed, it is a significant moment.

You may recognise the headfooter figure from Oswald Tschirtner, the most celebrated artist associated with this form. Rosskopf arrived at something similar and entirely distinct. Her lines are drawn in pencil, with subtle undulations and variations in pressure. The compositions feel weightless yet grounded, balanced and full of tension. There is nothing accidental in them.

Today we are presenting three verified works by Karoline Rosskopf, each with a certificate of authenticity. For collectors of Art Brut, and especially for those drawn to the founding era of Gugging, this is not a moment to pass over.

Available now in our online shop, and in person at the gallery.
