We’re back with another design studio interview—this time we talked with studio weholo, a Vienna-based design and development agency.
⠀
With Readymag, Weholo created a landing page for an app (https://twospot.com/), a website for a wine store (https://schenzel.com/), and other projects. The studio’s website is , too: → https://www.weholo.studio
⠀
What makes your studio special?
⠀
Our core team started working together a few years ago on a self initiated Augmented Reality project. As we started we just had an idea and the vision of something greater. Now we are combining code and design to develop apps, web platforms, interaction design, AR and VR applications. We think what makes us special is that we don’t fear trying out new ways and contemplating things from different angles.
⠀
What do you consider to be the greatest achievement of the studio so far?
⠀
Together with the interaction design studio Thisplay we developed a multimedia app system for action and fun sport locations called VAME. The users can track times and speed as well as get videos of their rides directly in the app when they go down hill mountain biking or skiing for example. The system is already applied in a waterpark in Austria and hopefully soon at many other places.
⠀
Why might you turn down a potential client?
⠀
People are so different—viewpoints can seem so clear in one moment and totally drift apart in another. Working with clients on a project base means constant learning how to avoid misunderstandings and clear things out from the beginning. I think meanwhile we are better at anticipating critical spots and also know which people we like to work with or not. What made it easier so far to find out if a project is a curse or a blessing (for us as well as for the clients) is doing a workshop before we start the project to mark out all details and get to know the people behind it. This is the point when we decide if we like a project or rather turn it down.
