LAST WEEK to visit Anders Edström’s solo show Paints 4 at St. Kindelein in Hamburg, on view until 31 May, 2025
For Paints, Edström pours paint onto foam boards and takes pictures of it. He always takes one picture in black-and- white and one on color film. This is the fourth representation of the Paints series.
Previous shows of the series include Paints (2022) at Galerie Lars Friedrich in Berlin, Paints 2 (2024) at Antics Gallery in Stockholm, and Paints 3 (2025) at Ermes Ermes in Rome.
Anders Edströms work has been shown in Paris at the National Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Georges Pompidou, as well as the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photogra-
phy and in New York in the MoMA PS1.
Anders has worked closely with C.W. Winter on several films, including One Plus One 2 (2003), made with Derek Bailey, and The Anchorage (2009), which won the Cineasti del presente Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival
and Best Independent/Experimental Film from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
Their later film, The Works and Days (2020), an eight-hour fiction feature, won the Golden Bear in the Encounters section at the Berlinale, best prize at the Punto de Vista and Black Canvas film festivals and best Independent/Experimenati Film of 2020 from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
