The 2026 Fritzsche Oration will be held at the ALC Library on 17 September commencing at 4.00pm.

This year’s topic is ‘Unearthing the Treasures: Insights into the development and professionalisation of the Lutheran Lohe Library Collection’.

Librarian Trevor Schaefer, Dr Wendy Mayer and Dr Pam Zweck will speak to different aspects of the library’s history, and what the collection offers students and researchers in theology and church history.

Held onsite at the ALC Library in its current home at 1/22 Pulteney St, Adelaide, attendees are invited to browse the collection before and after the oration and appreciate the diversity of resources the library holds.

If you wish to join online, this event will be livestreamed and recorded via zoom for those unable to attend in person.

Here's a chance to be involved in an international research project! Isabella Barbarić from the University of Zurich (Universität Zürich) is undertaking preparing a thesis titled "Language Attitudes von Schweizer Auswanderern in Australien zwischen 1850 und 2025/Language Attitudes of Swiss Emigrants in Australia between 1850 and 2025".

She is seeking Swiss emigrant letters and diaries from Australia (1850-2025), so if you hold copies or know that family in Switzerland or elsewhere hold copies, please contact Isabella via the link below.

On 13–14 August 2026, Lutheran Archives Collections Archivist Angela Schilling visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to lead a workshop focused on caring for church records and archives. Participants from churches and theological institutions across the Federation of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in Malaysia and Singapore (FELCMS) attended.

Academic and Archivist Athletes.

Australian Lutheran College Principal Tim Stringer and Lutheran Archives Project Archivist Ben Hollister greeted the morning by competing in the SA Duathlon State Championship.

Good cardiac fitness is an important part of keeping pastoral students in line and carrying archive boxes up stairs. 😁

As well as manuscript and artefact collections, Lutheran Archives holds a significant audiovisual collection. Parts of the collection can be sampled at the Lutheran Church of Australia Church House Exhibition Centre, Frome St Adelaide.

Last year, researcher Jürgen Oschadleus corresponded with us about a paper he was writing for his studies at Morling College (A Collision of Collaboration and Confession: The Challenge
Confronting the Hermannsburg Missionsgesellschaft’s
Australian Endeavours (1864–1894).

Encouraged to enter it in the Evangelical History Association's Robert D Linder Evangelical History Prize, Jürgen's paper was awarded the prize at this year's EHA conference.

For those wanting to read the prize-wining paper, you'll need to track down a hardcopy of the EHAs journal 'Lucas' through an academic library service or by approaching the EHA.

Congratulations, Jürgen, on your work being recognised and for contributing to the telling of the story of the Hermannsburg Mission Society and its work at Killalpannina/Bethesda and Ntaria/Hermannsburg.

We were shut from the 4th to the 6th of August for onsite photographing of some of our artefacts collection. This was part of larger audit and photographing projects related to our artefacts collection. Once complete, this will be a searchable index on our website.
