We are excited to announce Paul Knight as the recipient of the 2026 National Photography Prize.

Selected from twelve finalists by judge Natasha Bullock, Senior Curator, Photography, National Gallery of Victoria, Knight’s winning work Chamber Music 2009- documents the domestic life he shares with his partner Peter. Through portraiture and still life, Knight's prints balance intention and chance and create a sustained meditation on intimacy as a counterpoint to power and hierarchy. The work reflects on how relationships are shaped and communicated through everyday life.

Paul Knight lives and works on Darkinjung Country in Ettalong Beach, NSW. His practice explores intimacy, gentleness, and the social structures that shape closeness. His photographic practice considers the image as a container for experience and examines how loving bonds are formed and expressed.

Congratulations to Paul Knight, and all the 2026 finalists.

The 2026 National Photography Prize is now open at MAMA

Dainas, by local Beechworth artist Inga Hanover

This new exhibition invites audiences to revel in the celebrations of Ķekatas, the Latvian winter solstice festival. Incorporating installation, textile sculpture, and video, the exhibition shares a rich visual language shaped by ritual, folklore, and the occult.

Dainas are a traditional Latvian form of poetry or music, intended to guide ritual and festival, as well as the practices of daily life.

Inga Hanover’s practice is grounded in her Latvian cultural heritage and her inherent desire to understand and preserve its ritual and folklore. Her installation, textile, and video works explore history, storytelling, and memory, woven together by an exploration of the meaning of ‘home’.
