Friday 4 September | Micheal Do — Revisiting 1989: Art, AIDS and America

How might grief become a visual language? What happens when artists take control of their own stories, and look back towards a past with no clear future in sight?

Join curator, writer and broadcaster Micheal Do as he revisits two landmark exhibitions from 1989 - Nan Goldin’s Witnesses: Against Our Vanishing and Against Nature: A Group Show by Homosexual Men - exploring performance, contemporary art, and the q***r archive of gossip, ghosts and what the record leaves out.

We are thrilled to have ‘The Bushwalkers’ by Freda Robertshaw on loan from the National Gallery until December 3rd.

The beautiful 1944 painting was donated by Gumnut Patisserie owner Tracy Nickl and her family who discovered it in their late grandfather’s home.

After discovering the value of the painting, the Nickl family chose to donate the rare work to National Gallery of Australia in memory of their grandparents.
