Forget the ICB or the Gateway... imagine commuting like this 🐴💨 In the 1850s, Captain Wickham would walk out of Newstead House and hop into an open-air horse-drawn carriage for a bumpy, dusty ride into town to run early Brisbane. No air-con. No podcasts. Just vibes and a face full of dust 🤧 Next time you’re stuck in Brisbane peak hour, just be glad you don't have to clean up after your horsepower! 🚗 📷 : SLQ

Are you watching the new East of Eden adaptation? 🎬📺 While Steinbeck’s characters were trying to start fresh in California, early settlers were doing the exact same thing right here in Brisbane. They built beautiful homes like Newstead House, but behind the grand verandahs was the same messy, complicated history of survival and human nature 🧐It’s the perfect place for a weekend stroll and a little history deep-dive. Have you visited Newstead House?

Before Spotify, there was this ✨ If you wanted a playlist at a 1880s house party, you had to play it yourself on the piano or use a Polyphon mechanical "jukebox". See these Victorian era tune providers inside Brisbane’s historic Newstead House 🎹🎶 📷 : MOV

The "grand Victorian lifestyle" looked stunning from the upstairs, but it was built entirely on the aching backs of downstairs staff. While the elite enjoyed the breezy verandahs, servants battled Brisbane's intense summer heat in heavy wool uniforms - hauling water, stoking fires and scrubbing heavy linens 🥵 No AC. No modern appliances. Just endless manual labor. 📷 : SLQ
