CALL OUT TO THE BROKEN HILL COMMUNITY
Pro Hart - Beyond the Canvas: a retrospective exhibition 20 Years on
Do you have a Pro Hart artwork, photograph, personal item or piece of memorabilia that tells a story about Pro?
The Broken Hill City Art Gallery is preparing a special retrospective exhibition commemorating 20 years since the passing of Pro Hart, one of Broken Hill’s most celebrated and beloved artists.
As part of the exhibition, we are seeking locally held Pro Hart artworks and memorabilia to help create a rich and personal picture of Pro’s life, work and enduring connection to Broken Hill.
We are interested in hearing from anyone who may have:
- Pro Hart paintings, drawings, prints or other artworks
- Sketches, studies or works on paper
- Sculptural works or objects
- Photographs of Pro, his family, studio, exhibitions or community activities
- Exhibition invitations, catalogues, posters or promotional material
- Personal correspondence, cards or signed material
- Newspaper articles or publications relating to Pro
- Art-making tools, studio items or objects associated with Pro
- Memorabilia, merchandise or other items connected to Pro and his artistic career
- Personal stories or memories of Pro that may help bring the exhibition to life.
We are particularly interested in items that have a connection to Broken Hill and the local community, including stories about Pro as an artist, innovator, neighbour, employer, mentor, friend or member of the community. The exhibition will look beyond Pro Hart's well-known artworks to explore the breadth of his practice and the remarkable relationship between Pro, Broken Hill and the Australian outback.

Items do not need to be of significant monetary value, sometimes the most meaningful stories are found in the objects that have been kept, treasured and passed down through families.

We would be grateful for the community's help in bringing together this special tribute to Pro Hart and his enduring legacy in Broken Hill. The exhibition will open 2nd November 2026 and run through until February 2027.
