One of our historical photographs has made it onto an Australia Post stamp!
This year marks 100 years of the Gillies Highway, and as part of the centenary celebrations, John Brodie from the Yungaburra Post Office contacted the Cairns Historical Society looking for an early photograph of the Post Office.
We were able to help with an image dating back to around 1926, showing the newly built Post Office with a horse-drawn vehicle parked outside.
And now that photograph has found a new home on a stamp, which John kindly sent to us on a postcard.
We think this might be the first time a photograph from our collection has appeared on a stamp!
It's always lovely to see images from our collection being rediscovered and shared, especially when they help local communities celebrate their history.
