VALE UNCLE IVAN

It has been a heavy week for our Community. It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Uncle Ivan, respected Elder and passionate supporter of Campbelltown Arts Centre.

His wisdom, kindness and dedication to Community touched countless lives. He always made time for people, whether it was sharing a cup of tea, a story, a laugh or simply being present. His warmth, generosity and commitment to bringing people together through Culture and Community will be remembered by many.

Through his guidance and advocacy, Uncle Ivan helped the Arts Centre build strong relationships with community and deliver programs grounded in meaning, Culture and connection. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the Arts Centre and the broader Community.

We are grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside Uncle Ivan and to learn from his knowledge, leadership and friendship.

Uncle Ivan will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Last night, we celebrated Burra Bumal, a deadly performance celebrating the creativity, cultural knowledge and artistic achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from Campbelltown and surrounding communities.

The performance theatre was buzzing with attendees, and we were welcomed to Country by Aunty Glenda Chalker.

Burra Bumal presents original dance works developed by facilitators Kiarn Doyle and Hannah Hansen and participating students, who will share their creative journey with family, friends, cultural mentors, teachers and the wider community.

Guided by local Elders, Aunty Annette Houston and Uncle Phil Dotti, experienced artists and emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contemporary dancers, participants have engaged in a rich process of artistic development, mentorship and cultural exchange.

Burra Bumal couldn't have been possible without the support of Sarah Morris (pictured, final slide). As Sarah moves into a new role and the next chapter of her career, we thank her for everything she has made an extraordinary contribution to Campbelltown Arts Centre through her work with artists, communities and creative projects across the region.

We wish Sarah every success in her new role and know she will continue to make a meaningful impact wherever her work takes her.

In workshops led by Gillian Kayrooz and L-FRESH The LION, the artists engaged with works from the Campbelltown City Council Art Collection and Campbelltown Arts Centre exhibition archive.

Presented by Campbelltown Arts Centre in partnership with VADEA (Visual Art and Design Educators Association of NSW) leave the classroom behind and unwind with an evening of feasting, discovering, making, and mingling with fellow educators.

Time is running out to witness ‘Pitch’ by Kirtika Kain at Campbelltown Arts Centre.

Kirtika Kain was born in New Delhi, India and now lives and works on Darug Country, Western Sydney. Considerations of caste and identity underpin her materially driven practice, which seeks to reimagine personal and collective narratives.

The new works presented in ‘Pitch’ reflect Kain’s background as printmaker. The two sides of the ambitious central work are essentially a plate and a print, with the canvas side having acted as the printing plate for the hessian component. Similarly, the smaller tar works that surround the significant scrolling work are produced as casts of other painted surfaces.

In this way, Kain’s studio becomes like an archive that continually creates itself. These processes are also alchemical, dealing in transferal and transformation.

We are in the final days of Zico Albaiquni: 'To all the steps that shake the land’s memory'.

Albaiquni’s monumental paintings evoke the Indonesian concept of ‘lukis’, a method of making that is intertwined with ritual, labour, spirituality and everyday life.

Albaiquni works with existing images that hold personal, cultural and colonial histories, overlaying and obscuring these images to allow contradictions to remain visible.

Discover vibrant, complex works that interrogate representations of Indonesia, its colonial past, the Eurocentrism of the art history canon, and Albaiquni’s commodified role as a painter.

Calling curious minds of all kinds! Have you been feeling blah, overworked, and stuck in a creative rut? Keen to build new skills, confidence, and friendships? Well, CuriousWorks and Milk Crate Theatre's arts program Origin Story is for you.

This 6-week creative program is an all-abilities, no-experience necessary course that will unearth your artistic impulses. Origin Story is a free program, open to everyone including people who identify as neurodiverse or disabled or d/Deaf.

It is co-facilitated by Bedelia Lowrenčev, Miranda Aguilar & William Uy Vu Le. During these workshops, you’ll spend time with professional artists and learn all their tips and tricks. Whether you want to write, dance, act or just get in the room and start making something, we’ve got you covered!

Bankstown Arts Centre presents: Surviving the Agricultural Apocalypse!

In this workshop, Edible States exhibiting artist Andrew Rewald will demonstrate through step-by-step instructions how to create a self-irrigating planter out of food-grade plastic buckets and other materials easily sourced from around the home or general hardware store. Anchored from his artwork Case of Emergency (2026), the workshop draws inspiration from ancient water-saving technologies with drought-resistant wild edible weeds thriving in urban environs, offering a playful contingency plan to rethink our environmental footprint.

All planter materials will be provided. However, participants are also welcome to bring their own seeds/seedlings to plant at the end of the workshop, as well as a large bag to carry the 5L planter with them as they leave. Participants will also receive an instruction sheet, allowing them to recreate the workshop at home.

Selected artist for the 18th Lyon Biennale, Kirtika Kain’s 'Pitch’ is currently on show at Campbelltown Arts Centre.

Drawing on her Dalit heritage, Kain examines caste in the diaspora through material and studio processes.

First presented at Murray Art Museum Albury, the exhibition arrives at a pivotal moment in Kain's career, reflecting her ongoing interest in the social and historical legacies of materials, particularly as they relate to class and status.

The tar used in each of these works carries a material history of extraction, labour and transformation, as well as a cultural history of ritual, ceremony, and medicine.

On view now until 13 September 2026.
