Make your own glowing pixel masterpiece! Stack coloured tiles and watch how they transform the light into new hues.

The coloured tiles filter out certain wavelengths. By stacking multiple filters to remove wavelengths, deeper and darker shaded are created.

40 years ago today, the groundwork was laid for Questacon’s permanent home in Parkes, Canberra.

With Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Minister for Science Barry Jones in attendance, the first sod was turned, marking the beginning of a bold vision that would grow into Questacon, Australia’s national science centre.

Questacon acknowledges First Nations Peoples as Australia’s first scientists, makers and innovators, and recognises their ongoing contribution to STEM.

As we celebrate National Reconciliation Week, we’re taking time to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and what reconciliation means in practice.

This year, Questacon staff are exploring how we can be all in for reconciliation, guided by thoughtful prompts from the Reconciliation Yarn Cards created by Wingaru Education.

Today is World Turtle Day! 🐢🥳

Did you know that all tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises?

Simply put, the term 'turtle' is a widely used umbrella category. However, there are many species under that umbrella with different physiology, habitats, diets and lives.

Today is a great day to learn more about or simply admire these wonderful creatures. You can also learn what we can do to protect and cherish these shell-ebrated chelonians*. 🏝️

*chelonians refers to animals of the order Testudines, usually characterised as toothless, oviparous, quadrupedal, pentadactyl reptiles with a shell and a unique trochlear system for the common tendon of the jaw adductor muscles 😉

ABC Canberra listeners have been voting on the Alphabet of Canberra and we are honoured to have been voted in to represent the letter Q on behalf of this wonderful city and surrounds!

We had the pleasure of welcoming Saskia Mabin and some of the ABC Canberra Mornings crew to Questacon.

Saskia promised listeners that she would fulfill a childhood ambition, finally going down the Free Fall at Questacon.

We are delighted to say Saskia, Mary, Anna and Caroline successfully made it down… TWICE!

Thank you ABC Canberra and to all of you who voted for Questacon! 🛝💕
