150 million years before dinosaurs roamed the Earth, almost all backboned animals lived in water, not on land. This was the Devonian Period or the "Age Of Fishes". A chance find n

ear Canowindra NSW in 1956, and a major excavation of the same site in 1993, uncovered a remarkable fossil site. The site contained well preserved remains of thousands of bizarre, long extinct fishes encased in bony armour, other fishes with lungs and huge predators with crocodile like jaws, many of them new to science. The most important fossil treasures are now on display at the Age Of Fishes Museum in Canowindra. This unique "window in time" allows visitors to study what happened in Canowindra 360 million years ago. The fossils are supplemented by permanent exhibitions, gift shop, geological time walk, sculpture garden and outdoor picnic areas. There are many hands on activities in the Museum such as the education den, giant games board, huge floor puzzles and fossil dig pits. Individuals and small groups are welcome between 10am and 4pm, 7 days a week with the exception of Christmas Day and Anzac Day morning. Other times are by appointment.

More than 80 historic vehicles, all over 100 years old, will travel through the region as part of the 2026 National Veteran Vehicle Rally - Cowra, NSW, bringing a remarkable piece of motoring history to our local roads.

From a 1908 Cadillac to a 1918 Buick and 1918 Harley-Davidson, these beautifully preserved vehicles showcase the craftsmanship and innovation of motoring's earliest days. More than 185 rally participants, along with their families and friends, will spend the week exploring Cowra and surrounding towns, including visits to Carcoar, Grenfell, Canowindra, Gooloogong and Wyangala Dam.

📍Opportunities to see the vehicles include:
• 7 September: Woodstock and Carcoar
• 8 September: Greenthorpe and Grenfell
• 10 September: Gooloogong and Canowindra
• 11 September: Wyangala Dam

If you see the veteran vehicles on the road, please be patient and give them plenty of space. These vehicles typically travel between 30 and 70 km/h, require longer stopping distances, and some drivers may use traditional hand signals.

This is a rare opportunity to experience Australia's motoring heritage up close and meet the passionate owners who keep these incredible machines on the road. 🚘✨
