Scholers Bros Store

Scholer Bros. came to Casino in 1905 and built a new store which opened in December 1905.

The brick building was a one story with 68ft frontage to Walker Street and a depth of 96ft. The ceilings were embossed steel and the inside of the building lighted with some 30ft of glass on the roof. A special feature was the deep display windows and ornamental tiles at the front entrances. The whole building had acetylene gas lighting and water. There were ladies and gentlemen's departments under the one roof and a separate area for millinery, boots and furniture.

In 1906 several additions were made, including a produce store, a machinery store, cart shed, oil store, gas room and harness room.

In October 1908 it was announced that Scholers Bros of the Emporium Casino had sold their business to Mr Bales from Goulburn. Hans Scholers took over the adjoining Bakers Trade Palace. There were two name changes: Junior and McCartney's Emporium and Scholer's and McCartneys. In 1914 the Emporium and Trade Palace amalgamated becoming one of the largest businesses on the North Coast.
