๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฒ ๐—๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿด

On this day in 1968, John Killick and two fellow prisoners attempted to escape from Pentridge Prisonโ€™s E Division.

Using a smuggled hacksaw, the men cut their way out of a dormitory, overpowered a warder and triggered a major overnight police operation. After a tense stand-off lasting several hours, all three surrendered in the early hours of 17 June 1968.

As Killick later recalled:

The incident remains one of the most dramatic escape attempts in Pentridge Prisonโ€™s history.

Today marks one year since the Pentridge Prison online Museum was launched.

Over the past twelve months, the collection has continued to grow through the generosity, enthusiasm and knowledge of so many people. Photographs, documents, objects, memories and stories have all helped build a richer understanding of Pentridge Prisonโ€™s history.
