Seeing as the Police Museum was open this morning, the opportunity was taken to give the VF Commodore a run, to go and collect the HZ Kingswood which has been receiving some loving attention from a couple of talented Holden savvy Technicians.

A big day out today for the Tasmania Police Museum Team. Some months back, the Shannons Insurance Development Manager for Tasmania, Mr Rod Belbin invited the Museum to display some of the motorcycles held within the Museum collection at the planned 'Shannons Motorcycle Spectacular' scheduled for this weekend. The Museum team stood up as requested and with the assistance of Bernard Peters and Cam Cooper from Marine and Rescue, carted 3 of the Museum's motorcycles to Princes Wharf 1 (PW1) yesterday for the weekends Motorcycle Spectacular. To add to the display, a current spec BMW police motorcycle was borrowed from Southern Road Policing Services, many thanks to Joshua McCarthy for delivering it.

Pictured here is Mr Rod Belbin from Shannons with Allan Skeggs from the Tasmania Police Museum at the Museum display late this afternoon. Rod was over the moon at the success of first day of the event, with over 3000 people through the door raising money for their charity partner Variety Tasmania. Many of the little people through the door sat on the police bike in front of these gents for photo purposes, and cleaned out the Community Engagement Division provided supplies of colouring in books and pencils. The Team are suitably restocked and resting up prior to the 2nd and final day of the Motorcycle Spectacular. There are over 180 classic motorcycles present, its well worth a look.

The Burnie Mill Industrial Dispute in 1992 had wide ranging implications for Tasmania Police that created a binding precedent for Tasmania Police to adhere to. Legal matters aside, the impact this dispute this had on Burnie and the wider North West Coast was significant. Burnie Councillor Justin Grave has recently unearthed and published these images that provide an insight into this emotive and challenging period, which was only 34 years ago.

Preparations are well underway at the Tasmania Police Museum to place some of the Museum's motorcycles at Princes Wharf 1 (PW1) this weekend for the Shannons Motorcycle Spectacular. It was a bit of a mission to separate this 1941 Harley Davidson from its sidecar to get it out the Museum door. The Harley will be reunited with the sidecar for the Motorcycle Show. Helen poked her nose out of the Community Engagement office to see what the fuss was, and happily plonked herself on the Harley with a smile.

Last week, we mentioned the photos would come thick and fast. Our Tasmania Police Museum Team have been taking in the sights. Here we have Steve Bonde happily sitting in the shade in RP92, the Museum's HZ Kingswood at Gundagai. Mick Barber is no doubt sourcing some food to satisfy the dog on the tuckerbox in the background. It appears our Tasmania Police Museum team have been very active in getting around our Nation's Capital. Nice period image parked outside the old Parliament House (both the museum team lads present were police officers when Malcolm Fraser was PM), Another image with the 'New' Parliament House in the background. It appears our current PM Mr. Albanese was otherwise engaged responding to Ms Hanson and not available to chat. However, the fine people from the Australian Police History Group were more than happy to meet their Tasmanian Colleagues.

Due to having a few of the Tasmania Police Museum Team all at the Museum on a Saturday, the opportunity was taken to conduct some cleaning of the Museum's storage facility. This jacket was found during a recent excavation of a pile of old uniforms that are now being catalogued. Those present (even with 123 years of police experience between them) have no idea about the history of this sports top. Hopefully we have someone who views this page that can enlighten us.
