The Old Auction House An Independent Creative Hub in Kyneton, Supporting creativity and art in the Macedon Ranges.

The Old Auction House is a creative hub showcasing the emerging artists and creatives of Regional Victoria and beyond. With two Galleries that specialise in emerging and mid-career contemporary artists individually and in group shows, an Australian Handmade Shop featuring more than 100 makers as well as a busy schedule of Creative Workshops by an ever expanding list of local artists in everything

from Silver Jewellery to Leadlight or Illustration. The space is also home to Leadlight By Ettore, a multi-generational glass arts teaching studio and Kyneton Craftery, a craft and maker studio who run both adult workshops and kids birthday parties in a range of crafts including polymer clay, jewellery making and scrapbooking. The DiPilla family bought the derelict historic 1880's timber building in 2016, known in the town as the Ferris Auction House which it housed for 90 years. The 1/4 acre under roof building was in uninhabitable condition and after six months of intensive renovations, the shop and glass studio were opened with the gallery and more artist studios opened 3 months later. The Old Auction House officially opened on April 22nd 2017 and remains a completely family-owned creative hub in Regional Victoria. The restoration of the back sections of the building are currently on hold but are hoped to add another large creative teaching studio to the hub.

Continuing our series of ranges of art supplies we hold in store, we have Global Colors Acrylic Paints. We refer to this as a Secondary School Paint, it is better quality than your standard kids paints, it has nice pigments, less fillers and a binder that gives a good quality flexible finish, all for less than $6 a tube.

Plus it has all the benefits of a Australian Made kids paint, you know it is tested to Australian Standards for being Non-Toxic, Zero-VOC, Water Based and Vegan, so clothes aren't ruined and you can use it with kids without the stress of yet another recall like many of the imported brands.

It really is our go-to paint for everything from window displays and signage to making hand prints with our bubba.

Congratulations to Denise Martin for her piece I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud which won the Kyneton Daffodil & Art Festival Art Prize last night. Judge Laurie Benson, love that the daffodils have such character and life and they way the textured background increases interest and added highlighting to the flower.

We would also like to congratulate Heather Mills on receiving the Highly Commended prize for her piece Daffy Dills. Come and see all the winners of each category in the gallery which are on display everyday until the 14th of September.

Anita from Heartwood Turns has given us the most beautiful pieces in her latest restock. Everyone's seen wood turned pens, but have you seen wood turn seam rippers and crotchet hooks?

I'm still going to swear like a sailor when I sew that piece backwards, upside down and to the wrong piece of fabric (how do I do all three at once is the real skill!) but maybe the quality, weight and prettiness of the seam ripper might make me feel a bit better about it đŸ˜‚

Thought we'd do a little series on some of the ranges we hold in our art and craft supply section of the shop. We always say we only hold products that we would choose to use that are high enough quality for amazing results while not bleeding your wallet dry.

That truly is the best description of the Standard Series Amsterdam Paints, they are a single series (which is simply a fancy way of saying all the colours cost the same price) that is designed for artists with a large range of colours that mix cleanly, clear labelling on every tube of that colours transparency/opaqueness as well as it's light fastness. It is a medium body so it can hold details and brush strokes it also is forgiving when making painting backgrounds. Also as it is Alkali-resistant it can be used on mural work as well!

It really is a great affordable option for beginners through to professional artists who want to pay less than $20 a tube with a choice of 90 colours. They also have small sample size sets if you want to test them out without committing to multiple full size tubes.

This weekend is your last chance to see the Contours group landscape exhibition before it closes on Monday. Contours brings together 8 local artists as they looked at the landscape with an eye to the lines and shapes that intricately fill our surroundings.

Contours is a reflection on our sense of place, capturing the patterns and flow of terrain, revealing both its physical and emotional presence with both abstracted and representational works.

Contours invites viewers to trace these visual pathways and reconnect with the landscapes that surround us. Contours is on display until August 31st.
