Australian National Flag Day on 3 September marks the first time the Australian National Flag was flown during Australia’s year of Federation. On this date in 1901, the Rt Hon Edmund Barton announced the winners of an international competition to design a flag for our nation. A flag, measuring 5.5 metres by 11 metres, was flown over the dome of the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, the site of Australia’s first Parliament.

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Federation, the adoption of the Constitution, the first sitting of Commonwealth Parliament on 9 May 1901, and the first official flying of the Australian National Flag. Australian National Flag Day is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the values of fairness, aspiration and opportunity that unite us.

Notice our Open sign taking a little break today? With wind gusts expected today of up to 35km, we’ve grounded it in the name of public safety for our many footpath strolling pedestrians! But don’t worry, we’re very much open from 10am - 3pm. Come on in and enjoy Masks Mischief & Marvels, Growing Together, and more!

Leeton’s design story opened up from three different angles during Festival Weekend. The Walter Burley Griffin Society presented a full series of conversations covering Griffin’s incinerators and industrial design, the influences that led towards Art Deco, and the thinking behind planned communities such as Leeton.
Leeton Museum and Art Gallery hosted the three sessions and gave curious Festival minds somewhere to look more closely, listen, and ask questions.
Much appreciation to the research, generosity and thought behind the series. Useful things, ambitious ideas and plenty to take away afterwards.
