Join artist Minna Gilligan for a vibrant afternoon of collage and drawing inspired by her colourful mixed-media practice.

Known for her playful use of colour and imagery, Minna’s work explores personal memories, nostalgia and the space between past and present. Drawing inspiration from 1960s and 1970s psychedelia, her artworks are rich visual playgrounds that celebrate imagination and storytelling.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will begin by creating an abstract drawn background, before using collage materials to introduce characters, visual fragments and narrative elements. The result will be a unique mixed-media artwork bursting with colour, nostalgia and personality.

Minna’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria and Heide Museum of Modern Art. As an illustrator, she has collaborated with clients including Rookie Magazine, Rachel Antonoff, Elle Magazine, Urban Outfitters and It’s Nice That. She is also the author of Collage Kit: A Cut and Create Book (Thames & Hudson).

Join us in a special afternoon that supports the Music Residency Program.

Set within the striking natural and sculptural landscape of McClelland Sculpture Park + Gallery, this special event offers a rare opportunity to experience music in an intimate and immersive setting.

Acclaimed musicians Genevieve Lacey (recorders) and Marshall McGuire (harp) share a performance developed during their time in residence, a new work in progress shaped by their long-standing collaboration and inspired by centuries old folk melodies.

They are joined by Erkki Veltheim (violin & electronics) and Helen Svoboda (double bass & voice), bringing together a remarkable group of artists in one space.

Featuring: Genevieve Lacey, Marshall McGuire, Erkki Veltheim and Helen Svoboda.

Settle in for an afternoon of exceptional music, accompanied by canapés and fine wine, and be part of a moment that supports the development of outstanding Australian artists.

Join us at McClelland these school holidays for a free colourful creative adventure inspired by the exhibition Christopher Pyett: Years of Colour.

Children and families are invited to explore colour, shape and imagination through a series of hands-on art activities. Create your own geometric slot sculpture inspired by Christopher Pyett’s vibrant works, design a pixel portrait of yourself or someone you know, and contribute to our growing community portrait wall. Along the way, discover even more playful ways to experiment with colour, line and creative expression while discovering the exhibition Christopher Pyett: Years of Colour.

Join us on Saturday 27 June for the opening of two compelling new exhibitions by local artists at McClelland.

The walls of the Elisabeth Murdoch Gallery will come alive with a vibrant collection of recent works by celebrated Australian painter Christopher Pyett. Created within the past five years, these abstract paintings reveal Pyett’s remarkable sensitivity to colour, rhythm, and form, underpinned by an unparalleled understanding of colour theory.

With an exhibition history spanning more than six decades, Pyett continues to paint daily in his Pearcedale studio. Disciplined and meditative, his practice remains driven by enquiry, experimentation, and a lifelong commitment to abstraction. This exhibition presents an exuberant body of new work by one of Australia's most senior and accomplished abstract painters.

Alongside this exhibition is the first major solo presentation of recent models, by Frankston artist Alison Tedesco. Having expanded her painting practice into three dimensions only eighteen months ago, Tedesco creates captivating miniature worlds that transform overlooked urban spaces into objects of wonder. From graffiti covered doorways and littered bus stops to abandoned factories, her meticulously crafted dioramas invite close looking and reflection.

Things are busy behind the scenes at McClelland as our curators and installation team transform the galleries for two exciting upcoming exhibitions by local artists Christopher Pyett and Alison Tedesco.

While exhibition changeover is in full swing, there’s still plenty to enjoy during your visit. Our Sculpture Park, Harry’s Café, and Design Store remain open and ready to welcome you.

Take a stroll through the park, enjoy a coffee or lunch overlooking the lake, browse unique design pieces, and soak up the beauty of art and nature in one place.

This winter, we're saying thank you to our local community.
Frankston City residents can enjoy free entry every weekend throughout winter, in addition to our usual free weekday access.

McClelland entry includes parking, entry to our galleries, access to our sculpture park, and the opportunity to browse our Design Store or relax at Harry's Café.

Whether you're meeting friends for coffee, enjoying a leisurely Sunday roast, taking the dog for a walk through the sculpture park, or simply seeking a moment of art and nature, McClelland offers the perfect winter escape.

As a not-for-profit arts charity, every visit makes a difference. Dining at our café, shopping in our Design Store, making a donation, or becoming a member directly supports our exhibitions, education programs, public events, holiday activities, and the ongoing care of our sculpture collection, bushland setting, and galleries.
