The Counihan Gallery was established in 1999 in honour of the Australian artist Noel Counihan (1913-1986). The Gallery aims to program exhibitions engaging with contemporary cultural and social issues.

Collection Spotlight!

Hayley Millar Baker's photographs from the Merri-bek Art Collection are on display in Manningham Council's latest exhibition, 'what we share'.

The exhibition brings together First Peoples artists who explore truth, identity, culture, ancestry, and politics through contemporary photographic portraiture and moving image.

'what we share' is on display at Manningham Art Gallery, Doncaster, until Saturday 29 August.

Meet the artists!

Joshua Hede's art practice is vibrant and playful, exploring his experience of sound, movement and daily encounters through dynamic abstract compositions.

As an artist with Down Syndrome, Joshua challenges conventional narratives around disability and creativity. His work is a conversation between his external and internal worlds and offers a window into his lived experiences.

Joshua is a local artist with a space at Coburg Studios.

His exhibition, Colour My World, continues at the Gallery until 19 July.

Meet the artists!

ENOKi is a proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta Blak Fulla based on Wurundjeri Country. Their multi-media practice explores themes of Blakness and Q***r identity, heavily inspired by ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s artists, rap, hip-hop, and pop culture. They are also inspired by comic books, animation, vintage art, and native flora and fauna.

Working across a range of mediums and settings, their imagery has been featured on the First People's RISING art tram, in Apple's 2023 WorldPride Campaign, and recently projected on the sails of the Sydney Opera House.

ENOKi's exhibition, MULANA, continues at the Gallery until 19 July.
