FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH... 🐴

A lot of you had some good guesses, but the cat’s officially out of the bag... Charlie was 12.

But knowing his age is only half the story. This is just the beginning of the tale.

Over the next few days, we’re going to be dropping short snippets of what actually happened out on that first muster... and it gets wild.

Expect dingoes, freezing snow, frostbite, and some true high country grit. 🐕❄️

"THAT IS SO BLOODY VITAL FOR THE COUNTRY..." 🏔️

When our supporter Renee first heard about Charlie’s plan to build the High Country Hall of Fame, she didn't mince her words:

"When I heard about Charlie and his vision about the Hall of Fame, I thought to myself, that is so bloody vital for this country and its people."

She’s spot on. This isn't just about putting up walls and a roof. It’s about anchoring our history, our traditions, and our mountain grit into the bedrock of Merrijig before it's lost to the scrub forever.

A legacy like this isn't built by one person, it takes a whole team. If you believe this history is vital too, jump on board.

Thanks for your support Renee ✨

HIGH COUNTRY TRIVIA TIME! 🐴🤠

We all know Charlie is a sixth-generation mountain cattleman, but he had to start somewhere. Let’s see who really knows their high country history!

How old do you reckon Charlie was at his very first cattle muster? *

A) 12 years old

B) 8 years old

C) 2 years old

👇 Drop your guess (A, B, or C) in the comments below! We’ll reveal the true story later this week.

ALL HANDS ON DECK: TIMBER WORKING BEE 🪵

G’day, we’ve got a stack of timber that needs some love and we need to get it out of the weather before it can be used to build the Hall of Fame.

We are calling a muster for the weekend of 20 June.

This one is for everyone, you don’t need a trade or any building experience at all. We’ll be working mainly undercover, so we can stay out of the weather while getting the job done.

When: Weekend of 20 June (Fri - Sun)
Where: The Hall of Fame site, 20 Powers Rd Merrijig

Working Bee Bridge Build will be the weekend of 27 June - we are calling all chippies for this one.

Campers are more than welcome on-site if you want to stay the night by the fire.

If you can give us a hand to lay these foundations, please shoot me a text at 0429 775 510 with your name and when you expect to arrive.

Let's get stuck in!

G’day, Charlie here. I wanted to share a story about my old man, Jack, that still makes my hair stand on end.

Back in 1942, when he was just a young bloke of 23, he did the unthinkable. He rode his horse from Mount Howitt right across to Mount Speculation, straight over that razor-edged ridge we call the Crosscut Saw.

With sheer, vertical drops on both sides, Dad admitted later in life it was a downright suicidal path to take. It was a feat of pure mountain grit that had never been done before,—and in all the decades since, it has never been repeated by anyone. (that I know off)

That’s the exact type of history we are fighting to save. I’m building the High Country Hall of Fame right here on the family property in Merrijig so legends like the old man aren’t lost forever.

We can't build this legacy alone. Jump onto the website and help us out today.

Last weekend, a few of us went up to King Billy Hut (Lovick’s) to do some maintenance. Jimmy, Cole, Damo and myself got stuck in and replaced the old timber stay above the fireplace with solid steel to make sure the hut stands strong against the winter weather.

Straight after, we cleaned up and headed down to the Mansfield Holiday Park for a rotary get-together. We had a fantastic night catching up with friends from far and wide and sharing our plans for the High Country Hall of Fame.

From the mountain huts to our community, the support is growing every week.

They say a good horse changes your life, but a great one becomes part of your soul. Meet our old girl, Girlie, 28years wise and a true member of the family.

For almost three decades, she’s been there through it all. She’s carried the kids, braved the mountain weather, and walked countless miles with us. She’s got a bit of gray around the muzzle now and moves a little slower, but her heart is just as big as the day she broke her first trail.

She’s a living reminder of why we do what we do at the Hall of Fame: protecting the stories of the loyalty, grit, and family legacy that shaped this land.

Drop a ❤️ to show some love for the old gold of the mountains.

A big milestone for us, Stage 1 is complete, and Stage 2 is well underway.

It’s been a lot of hard work, plenty of long days, and a whole lot of support from good people who believe in what we’re building. Seeing it all start to come together is pretty special.

If all keeps tracking along the way we hope, we’re aiming to hold an event late this year or early 2027 to welcome people in and celebrate how far this journey has come.

Still plenty to do, but we’re getting there. Keep an eye out, there’s a lot more to come.

We’ve added a new Supporters Page to the website to recognise some of the legends helping bring the Hall of Fame to life.

Whether you’ve donated a few dollars, swung a hammer, or shared our story, you’re the reason this dream is becoming real.

This project has never just been about me. It’s being built by good people who care about the High Country and the stories that belong here.

Head to the website and have a look at the names of those who’ve helped so far.

And if we’ve accidentally missed anyone, please let us know, it certainly wasn’t intentional. We’re doing our best to keep up with the incredible support coming in.

Thank you all. Truly.
