A true icon of Victorian aviation history.

VH-PVF was the first helicopter owned and operated by Victoria Police, entering service in 1979. For more than two decades it flew police patrols, search and rescue missions, air ambulance tasks, and countless life-saving operations across the state. It played a vital role during the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires and the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race rescues before retiring in 2001.

Today, this remarkable helicopter has found its forever home at the Moorabbin Air Museum, preserving an important chapter of Victoria’s emergency services history for future generations.

Like most of the aircraft in our collection, you can step inside VH-PVF and experience this historic helicopter up close during your visit.

Hidden away in our hangar is one of the most significant aircraft in Australian aviation history.

Our CAC CA-1 Wirraway A20-10 is the oldest surviving CAC Wirraway and the oldest surviving aircraft built by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC). Built in 1939, it was one of the very first Wirraways produced and helped lay the foundations of Australia’s wartime aviation industry.

After its RAAF service, A20-10 was returned to CAC before finding its permanent home at the Moorabbin Air Museum, where it has been carefully preserved for over 60 years. Today, it has been restored to ground-running condition, ensuring this remarkable piece of Australian aviation history can continue to inspire future generations.

Fresh stock has just landed in the Moorabbin Air Museum Shop! ✈️

Our shelves are now stocked with some incredible Hobby Master 1:72 die-cast aircraft, including the legendary RAAF F-111 Aardvark and the eye-catching F-22 Raptor “Joshua Cabo Gunderson” special edition. If airliners are more your thing, we’ve also got new GeminiJets models, including the Qantas A220, Qantas 787 Dreamliner, Emirates A380, and the world’s largest aircraft, the Antonov An-225.

For the builders, we’ve added the impressive Sluban “G for George” Avro Lancaster brick model, officially licensed by the Australian War Memorial. It’s a fantastic display piece and a great project for aviation history fans.

Bringing the kids? We’ve expanded our range of Little Aussie Adventure wooden aircraft, with koala helicopters and kangaroo aeroplanes that have already been getting plenty of attention.

And we’ve got something new for the little aviators… Bluey has arrived!
The brand-new Bluey Mixed Berry ice creams are now in our freezer and they’re already proving popular.

The Mirage III – an Australian aviation icon

The first thing you’ll see as you step into our hangar is the impressive G.A.F. Mirage III A3-45 – a true icon of Australian military aviation.

Serving the RAAF for over two decades, the Mirage III played a vital role in Australia’s air defence and became one of the country’s most recognisable fighter aircraft.

Our Mirage A3-45 proudly served with multiple RAAF squadrons before retiring from service and finding its forever home here at the Moorabbin Air Museum.

Come and experience this incredible aircraft up close and discover the stories behind one of Australia’s most famous jets.
