🚧 REMINDER — DVR YARD WORKING BEES 🚧

A reminder that the Derwent Valley Railway will be holding two upcoming working bees in the New Norfolk Yard:

📅 Wednesday 27 May 2026
⏰ 10:00am – 3:00pm

📅 Saturday 30 May 2026
⏰ 10:00am – 3:00pm

We’ll be continuing with:
🌿 Vegetation management
🔧 Yard clean-up
🪵 Organising materials and infrastructure
🚂 General preparation works around the yard

All volunteers and members are welcome to come along and assist where possible — even a few hours of help makes a big difference.

Please wear appropriate PPE, enclosed footwear, and bring gloves or basic hand tools if available.

🚂 HELP US PRESERVE A PIECE OF HISTORY 🚂

Derwent Valley Railway is currently looking for small older or heritage-style buildings that may be suitable for restoration, preservation, or future Railway use.

We are interested in:
• Old railway huts or station buildings
• Timber cottages or farm buildings
• Small storage sheds or depots
• Relocatable heritage-style structures

These buildings could potentially be restored and used for volunteer facilities, displays, storage, visitor spaces, or future heritage railway projects along the corridor.

If you know of a building that may be available — or one at risk of demolition — we would love to hear from you.

By working together, we can help preserve more of Tasmania’s history for future generations. ❤️

🚂 Board Member Spotlight – Maurice Hays

Today’s Board Member Spotlight is on Maurice Hays, Secretary & Public Officer of the Derwent Valley Railway.

Maurice has been heavily involved behind the scenes supporting governance, administration, member communications, media releases, and progressing important Railway projects — including ongoing lease discussions and future corridor planning initiatives.

A strong focus has been placed on helping secure and preserve key sections of railway infrastructure to support the long-term future of the organisation and Tasmania’s rail heritage.

Maurice is passionate about building a sustainable future for the Railway while supporting volunteers, members, and the wider community.

Thank you Maurice for your dedication, commitment, and countless volunteer hours supporting the Derwent Valley Railway. 🚂

Another productive day on the railway, with volunteers hard at work across a range of projects and maintenance tasks.

From track work and corridor upkeep to workshop jobs, planning, and behind-the-scenes administration, every task completed helps keep the Derwent Valley Railway moving forward.

A big thank you to all of the volunteers who continue to dedicate their time, skills, and energy to preserving Tasmania’s railway heritage.

Every sleeper replaced, every section maintained, and every hour volunteered makes a difference.

At Derwent Valley Railway we are incredibly grateful for every person who gives their time, skills, and passion to help preserve our railway and support our future.
From track work, maintenance, operations, administration, events, restoration, catering, and behind-the-scenes support — every contribution matters.
Volunteers are the heart of community organisations, and without them many great projects simply would not happen.

🚂 Wednesday at Derwent Valley Railway 🚂

Another big day of progress behind the scenes at DVR, with volunteers continuing work to preserve and revitalise Tasmania’s railway heritage.

From track maintenance and station projects through to planning for future operations, every hour volunteered helps keep the railway moving forward.

We would like to thank every volunteer, supporter, member, and local community member who continues to stand beside us during this important chapter for the railway.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but step by step we are building something the whole community can be proud of.

🚧 Track Work Underway at the DVR Yard 🚧
Today a small team of dedicated volunteers has been carrying out track maintenance and clean-up works within the Derwent Valley Railway yard area as part of our ongoing efforts to improve and preserve the site.
These works are focused on infrastructure condition, access, and preparing sections of track for future operational and restoration planning. It’s fantastic to see volunteers of all ages getting involved and working together to support the future of the railway.
A big thank you to everyone giving up their time and effort to help move the DVR forward. Every sleeper cleared, every rail adjusted, and every hour volunteered makes a difference.
