INTRODUCING BLANC EVENTS — Newcastle’s newest event company, creating beautifully considered experiences for hens parties, birthdays and every kind of soirée.

From drink and draw events and painting workshops to flower crown classes and catered gatherings, each Blanc event can be tailored to your special occasion.

Our first event, BOTANICA, will take place at LEDA Gallery.

For this immersive drink and draw experience, The Naked Florist will adorn a live n**e model in fresh botanicals, creating a beautiful living arrangement for guests to draw. Champagne will be served alongside a generous grazing table of cheese, charcuterie, seasonal fruits, sourdough and fresh produce.

Absolutely no drawing experience is needed. Blanc Events is designed for you to relax, have fun and enjoy an evening with bubbles in one hand and a pencil in the other.

We are so excited to share BOTANICA with you.

UP NEXT AT LEDA

GIORGIA BEL
‘MOTHER DREAMS’

LEDA Gallery presents Mother Dreams, a new exhibition by Giorgia Bel.

Bel’s practice is grounded in memory, imagination and a tender, melancholic connection to people, places and lived experience. Working in milky, dirtied-down colour and the shifting tones of dawn and dusk, she creates hazy landscapes and figures that move between the familiar and imagined.

Underpinning her practice is a belief in art as medicine—a means of processing, preserving and returning to the emotional landscapes that shape us.

Holly Wilson has been working on a book, ‘DO YOU LIKE ME’ to be released in 2027.

The book is where the concept for the exhibition of the same name was born—a cultural and philosophical examination of visibility, identity, beauty and self-worth within a culture of constant exposure.

This is not a soundtrack. It is part of the work.

An original one-hour sound installation conceived and composed by Holly Wilson, and produced by MZW, created specifically for DO YOU LIKE ME.

Moving through voice, atmospheric synths, distorted guitar and dark electronic sound, the work will play throughout the gallery as an integral part of the exhibition.

A note from Holly Wilson

“The idea for this work lived in my head for a long time before it found its form. I feel immensely fortunate to have worked on it with MZW, my producer, whose skill, professionalism and creative sensitivity have been essential to bringing it to life. Her ability to understand both the conceptual and emotional language of the work made her the perfect producer for this project. She understood not only how it should sound, but how it needed to feel”.

‘DO YOU LIKE ME’
HOLLY WILSON

SATURDAY 29 AUGUST
6–8PM

To be looked at is not necessarily to be known.
To be desired is not necessarily to be valued.
To be visible is not necessarily to be loved.

Comparison is not new. What has changed is its scale, its influence, and the fact that it rarely leaves us. We document ourselves while still becoming ourselves. Simultaneously the audience, the performer and the critic.

Throughout Do You Like Me, the face is concealed while the body remains exposed. The hessian becomes a symbol of erasure. The exhibition asks what happens to individuality when we make ourselves increasingly visible.

What do we gain from being seen?
And what do we give up?

What is lost through overexposure?

Beneath the performance, the comparison and the endless desire to be seen, are we all just asking the same question?

ARTIST INTRODUCTION
HOLLY WILSON ‘DO YOU LIKE ME’

Opening this Saturday 29.08
6pm - 8pm

My name is Holly Wilson. I’m an artist, musician, writer and the founding director of LEDA Gallery.

Before I began working in visual art, I was a musician. I later studied Fine Art, beginning in painting before finding myself drawn to philosophy, writing, performance and conceptual art. For the past five years, much of that creative energy has gone into building and curating LEDA.

It has now been seven years since my last exhibition.

This time, I’m returning to LEDA from the other side. As the artist.

My work is often read through the lens of feminism, and I value that reading. But feminism isn’t a framework I impose. The work begins simply with my own experience of being a woman in the world. A woman experiencing intimacy, desire, attachment, comparison, identity, rejection and our human need to be seen. I’m less interested in providing answers than I am in asking questions. Observation over prescribing meaning.

Influenced by artists and thinkers including Tracey Emin, Sophie Calle, John Berger and Roland Barthes, my practice now brings together photography, moving image, performance, philosophy and sound, alongside a musical language shaped by artists such as Portishead, Massive Attack, Björk, Sigur Rós and Beach House. I worked closely with my producer MZW to bring this to life.

After seven years, I don’t want to return to where I left off.

I want to make a world where the work exists.

Admittedly I am nervous and equally excited. I’ve spent the past five years creating this space for other incredible artists, so putting my own work into it feels exposing and daunting yet I’m beaming with inspiration to explore my creativity again.

DO YOU LIKE ME is the beginning of that world.
