Today is Father's Day, and for us at Red Desert Dreamings that's an important one. RDD is a family business, and we deal with many families - both the artists we represent, and the clients whose homes we help fill with the beauty, colour, and stories that Aboriginal artists have been handing from father to son (and mother to daughter) for generations in order to maintain a link with their ancestors and their history.
These artworks are a wonderful example of that family linkage - with works by Clifford Possum and his children Lionel, Michelle and Gabriella. The same dreamings, but each with their own personal twist on it - the children marking something of their own, but deeply informed and shaped by their father's life.
Today we honour the fathers who have taught, guided, provided for, and protected their children as our father did for us. Not least of all our own father Kevin, who has devoted his life to making sure that his sons grew into competent, kind, caring, and responsible men and I know I speak for my brother when I say that we are so very grateful to have lived under the tutelage and protection of our Dad. We now hope to do the same with our own daughters, and we have a great example to measure ourselves against, and to model from.
