Constance ARI presents ✨
Jewelled Nights || School of Physical Culture

Curated by Jacqueline Dortmans, and presented by The Unconformity.

100 years after the release of Marie Bjelke Petersen’s Jewelled Nights — Lutruwita / Tasmania’s first major silent film — this exhibition is a love letter to the women who made it happen.

We also invite you to sweat and subvert through the School of Physical Culture. Group fitness becomes a choreopolitical playground, in a participatory performance, unravel fixed identities and histories and re-perform with rupturing repetition. Explore autonomy, fluidity, and the politics of posture – come flex with us. More sass than sweat. All bodies welcome.

We're excited to share that Ursula Woods will be artist in residence at Holding Space in July-August ✨

Ursula Woods is a cinematographer and experimental film artist who creates work across film, television, art installation and experimental projects. Ursula has contributed to projects including Netflix’s The Survivors, SBS’s Moonbird, the award-winning fantasy/horror short A Green Affair, and Relâche - a hand processed 16mm film created in collaboration with Nipaluna/Hobart’s Second Echo Ensemble. Ursula has long worked in collaboration with artists and ensembles to create work for stage, screen and gallery. She is passionate about creating moving image works from her home darkroom, usually on 16mm.

During the Holding Space residency, Ursula will be working on a new body of work incorporating experimental film techniques and processes. There will be opportunities to connect with Ursula and learn about her approach to film – stay tuned!
