Our little helper Poppy was out this week lending a paw as we installed another mural plaque outside Blacksmith Café & Grill! ❤️

This plaque tells the story behind "The Loft", one of Sheffield's beloved murals painted by John Lendis in 1987. The mural reflects a time when lofts were used to store produce and became treasured spaces where children played, secrets were shared, and imaginations ran wild.
Next time you're strolling through Sheffield, take a moment to stop, read the plaque, and discover a little more of the history behind the artwork that makes our town so special.

Painted in 1987 by John Lendis, assisted by Diane Whiting, “Tom King the Blacksmith” is one of Sheffield Tasmania’s most iconic murals. Located at Blacksmith Cafe on Main Street, the mural inspired the café’s name and beautifully reflects Sheffield’s rich history and charm.
A hidden detail many visitors miss — this wall is actually brick, painted to look like old timber boards, adding even more warmth and character to the artwork.
If you’re exploring the Town of Murals and heading toward Cradle Mountain, stop inside Blacksmith Cafe & Grill Sheffield you’ll also find another beautiful piece of local art — a stunning Tasmanian wildlife mural painted by New Zealand artist Helen English. Featuring native birds and wildlife set beneath the silhouette of Mountains, The mural brings the beauty of Tasmania indoors and adds to the warm, creative atmosphere of the café.
Painted in 2024, the mural celebrates the unique wildlife of the region, including the legendary Tasmanian Tiger, said by some locals to still roam nearby wilderness areas.
