"Michelle van Eimeren arrives at Sydney Contemporary with one of the more remarkable trajectories in contemporary Australian art.

Before turning to fine art, she was a television actress in the Philippines with her own show, studied in Japan and Singapore, and ran a successful floral business for more than a decade as a professional wedding florist. Every chapter appears to have led naturally to the work she makes now. Her botanical contact prints on silk draw on an extraordinary connection with plants - she doesn't simply use leaves and flowers as materials; they are part of her language, carrying an intimacy and understanding of nature that cannot be manufactured. Her debut solo exhibition, Imbue, opened at C*D Gallery in June, following her inclusion in the gallery's New Voices graduate exhibition in 2024 after completing her BFA at the National Art School. For Sydney Contemporary, van Eimeren presents a botanical installation at Booth E06, bringing the outdoors into the fair and creating a quiet, immersive environment for visitors."

Moving between abstraction and landscape, Brookman’s paintings are shaped by an intuitive response to the natural world. Layers of oil, ink and mineral pigment unfold across raw linen, creating shifting terrains of colour, gesture and texture that evoke weathered earth, stone, water and changing light.

Following the success of her debut solo exhibition, Inner Grounds at C*D Gallery this year in May, Brookman returns with a new body of work that further develops her distinctive visual language, immersive, atmospheric and deeply connected to place.

Lampert’s sculptural works operate as abstract portraits, highlighting the achievements of accomplished women throughout history. They range from creative visionaries to the often unrecognised support roles women have played in innovation across science, humanities and the arts.

The Moon, Moth and Butterfly series work presents the story of Maria Sibylla Merian and her daughter Dorothea Maria Graff. They are female naturalists in 17 century who travelled from Amsterdam to Dutch Suriname to study insects in their natural environment. Building on Lampert's 2021 work (Carapace), Lampert expanded her exploration of the Merian women to include aspects of their expedition. Her 2026 solo exhibition at C*D Gallery presents eleven sparkling moths, catalogued by the Merian‘s during their time in Suriname, depicted flying in the moonlight. In 10th Sydney Contemporary, Lampert creates four different butterflies for this series of work. The work reflects the women’s achievements in entomology and scientific illustration.

C*D Gallery is thrilled to announce that Sophie Lampert has joined the gallery’s roster of represented artists.

Lampert creates intricate soft sculptures that honour extraordinary women throughout history, from artists, writers and philosophers to scientists and astronomers whose contributions have often been overlooked or erased.

Upholstered in black velvet and adorned with glass beads, sequins, embroidery and found materials, her sculptures operate as abstract portraits. Lampert's celebrate female ideas, discoveries and enduring legacies through otherworldly sculptural forms. Through beadwork, embroidery and upholstery, she challenges distinctions between art and craft while celebrating knowledge passed between generations of women.

For Sydney Contemporary 2026, Lampert presents a new series of Goddess sculptures that explore weaving as a metaphor for the cosmos. The daily cycle of the sun, moon and stars becomes a divine shuttle passing through the warp and weft of a celestial loom.

Lampert holds a Master of Fine Art from the National Art School. Her achievements include The Seed at Orange Regional Gallery, second place in the 2023 Gosford Art Prize, several major prize finalist selections, and a 2024 residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.

Our journey with Sophie has included her solo exhibition A Speck in the Ellipsis, Aotearoa Art Fair 2026, and Sydney Contemporary 2025 and 2026. We are deeply honoured to represent Sophie and look forward to supporting the next chapter of her practice.
