𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐒𝐀𝐘: 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐃 “𝐏𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐑𝐄”

What do you think? Council is inviting the community to have its say on a proposal to name the theatre within the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts the “Peter Allen Theatre”.

The proposal, put forward by School of Arts Tenterfield Inc., recognises the enduring connection between Tenterfield and Peter Allen, one of Australia’s most celebrated performers and songwriters.

Born in Tenterfield in 1944, Peter Allen’s connection to the town lives on through his iconic song Tenterfield Saddler, which helped put Tenterfield on the world map and remains an important part of our town’s story.

🏛️ 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲. The building will remain the Sir Henry Parkes Memorial School of Arts, just as other spaces within the building have their own names.

You heard that right, next month we are celebrating 150 years of the Tenterfield School of Arts!

To mark this important milestone, School of Arts, Tenterfield Incorporated has launched the School of Arts $100 Club, a community fundraising initiative designed to help activate the Museum and Theatre and reinvigorate the School of Arts as Tenterfield’s arts, culture and heritage hub.

A quick note for anyone who has seen the post on the library facebook about the event — after the show, audience members are warmly invited to stay for a shadow puppetry demonstration, where you'll get a closer look at the puppets and see how they work. It's a lovely introduction to this beautiful storytelling medium, and very much part of the experience — just not a structured workshop as some posts may have suggested.

Spike is fun and engaging for curious minds of all ages. We hope to see you there.
