The main place to visit here is the Folk Arts and Crafts museum located inside the Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation premises, the nearby old city from colonial period – Panam, and the beautiful Goaldi Mosque from the sultanate period. Panam City is located in a 10 minutes walking distance from the foundation gate. This once residence of the rich businessmen of Sonargaon has no boundary wall surrounding it. So you can dwell around the old buildings any time you like.

বাংলাদেশের লোককারুশিল্পে ব্রিটিশ হাইকমিশনারের মুগ্ধতা

আজ সোনারগাঁওয়ের বাংলাদেশ লোক ও কারুশিল্প ফাউন্ডেশন পরিদর্শন করেন বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত ব্রিটিশ হাইকমিশনার সারাহ কুক। কারুপল্লীর জামদানি শাড়ি, খাদি কাপড়, নকশি হাতপাখা সংগ্রহের পাশাপাশি তিনি নকশিকাঁথাসহ বিভিন্ন কারুপণ্যের উৎপাদন ও বিপণন প্রক্রিয়া প্রত্যক্ষ করেন।

ঐতিহ্যবাহী এ শিল্পের সূক্ষ্মতা, হাতে বোনা সৃজনশীলতা ও পরিবেশবান্ধব ধারায় তিনি গভীরভাবে অভিভূত হন এবং বাংলার লোককারুশিল্পকে বিশ্ববাজারে আরও সমৃদ্ধভাবে উপস্থাপনের আকাঙ্ক্ষা প্রকাশ করেন।

বাংলাদেশের লোককারুশিল্প কেবল একটি সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য নয়—এটি হাজার বছরের সৃজনশীলতার, নন্দনচেতনার ও গ্রামীণ জীবনের বহমান ধারার অমূল্য সাক্ষী। জামদানি বয়নশিল্পের সূক্ষ্ম নকশা, খাদির প্রাকৃতিক কোমলতা কিংবা নকশিকাঁথার প্রতিটি সেলাইয়ে লুকিয়ে আছে এ দেশের ইতিহাস, জীবনধারা ও মানুষের হৃদয়ের ভাষা।

আন্তর্জাতিক অঙ্গনে ক্রমবর্ধমান এ আগ্রহই প্রমাণ করে—বাংলার কারুশিল্পই বাংলাদেশের সাংস্কৃতিক ব্র্যান্ডিংয়ের অন্যতম শক্তি।

সোনারগাঁ থানা রোডে যানজটের মূল কারণ সিএনজি ও অটোরিকশা যত্রতত্র পার্কিং। মূল রাস্তায় এসব পার্কিং ও অতিরিক্ত ভারী যানবাহনের জন্য দিন দিন জ্যাম বাড়ছে বলে মনে করেন স্থানীয় এলাকাবাসী ও সচেতন মহল।

যানজট নিরসনে অতিশীঘ্রই সড়ক ও জনপথ (সওজ) কর্তৃপক্ষ এবং স্থানীয় প্রশাসনের হস্তক্ষেপ আশা করছেন তারা।
