Maccarone Gallery was founded in 2001 by Michele Maccarone, opening initially in an abandoned electronics store at 45 Canal Street. The gallery was among the first in Chinatown and allowed for mounting immersive, experimental projects unique to the space. The gallery’s mission has always been to champion emerging artists alongside historic figures, with a deep analysis of developing conceptual tre

nds and historical patterns. Over the past several years, the gallery has pivoted toward a new model in order to operate more fluidly. The gallery continues to deepen its commitment to launching new voices and centering formative work of historic artists through challenging, scholarship-focused exhibitions and events. In 2016, 2018, and 2019 the gallery explored themes of female sexuality through three extensive group exhibitions. Recently, Maccarone’s exhibition program featured solo projects by Trulee Hall, Fred Wilson and, Jim Carrey.
