A view into The Wunderwall Enlarged.

What began as an intuitive gesture, collecting small, accessible works by emerging artists, has grown into a central, living element of the gallery. The Wunderwall Enlarged brings this vision to its fullest expression: an immersive, floor-to-ceiling constellation where practices meet, overlap and evolve together.
Each work carries its own voice, yet it is in their proximity that something larger unfolds. Connections appear, tensions arise, and unexpected dialogues take shape. The wall becomes more than a presentation, it becomes a space of exchange, shaped by trust, attention and long-term commitment to artists at different stages of their careers.
At its core, The Wunderwall reflects a belief in the importance of emerging artists: not as a separate category, but as an essential force within the wider ecosystem of art. It is here that new ideas take form, where risk and experimentation remain visible, and where collectors are invited into a process of discovery.

On view at the gallery.

Daniëlle Hoogendoorn on flowers, colour and preserving fleeting moments.

For The Wunderwall Enlarged, Hoogendoorn presents ceramic vases with flowers inspired by those growing in her own garden. Rooted in ideas of transience and permanence, the works transform fragile, short-lived flowers into objects that continue to exist over time.

“Everybody has a different interpretation of flowers,” she reflects, moving between gratitude, sadness, beauty and memory.

Now on view as part of The Wunderwall Enlarged at Gallery Sofie Van de Velde through 21 June 2026.

A dialogue between past and present.

The recent works on view do not stand apart from what came before, they continue an ongoing conversation within Stef Driesen’s practice. In this reel, we look at the relationship between the new paintings and the body of work brought together in SD16–26.

A view into The Way Things Settle.

This exhibition brings together a selection of works by Bernd Lohaus that reflect the depth and quiet intensity of his practice. Working with wood, pigment, paper and stone, Lohaus developed a language grounded in reduction, where each gesture carries weight and meaning emerges through relation rather than statement.
Across the space, the works unfold as a series of encounters. They do not impose themselves, but invite a slower, more attentive way of looking. Fragmentary and open, Lohaus’ practice resists closure, allowing space for reflection, vulnerability and dialogue between object, viewer and environment.

A glimpse into Stef Driesen’s presentation.

Working on large-scale canvases, Stef Driesen builds his paintings through layers of washes, often in greys with subtle inflections of colour. His surfaces remain open and fluid, where traces accumulate and dissolve, allowing forms to appear without ever fully settling.

The works invite a sensory mode of looking, one that moves between distance and intimacy, between seeing and almost touching. Edges soften, spaces shift, and the painting unfolds as an atmosphere rather than a fixed image.

Presented alongside the launch of his new book SD 16–26, this moment offers both a reflection on the past decade of Driesen’s practice and an entry point into its evolving language.

On view in the Project Space.

Bringing Bernd Lohaus into the present.

In this reel, curator Brenda Guesnet reflects on the making of The Way Things Settle and the process of reactivating a lesser-known but deeply dynamic aspect of Bernd Lohaus’ practice. Best known for his sculptural work, this exhibition shifts the focus towards a series of action-based pigment works first created in the artist’s Antwerp studio in the 1970s.

By reenacting these gestures in the gallery, the exhibition invites a renewed encounter with Lohaus’ work, one where movement, material and space come together. Pigment is not used to depict, but to act. Thrust against the wall, it transforms the architecture itself into a three-dimensional canvas.

More than something to simply observe, this is an exhibition to experience, to move through, to absorb, and to let unfold in your own time.

On view at the gallery until June 21.
