Eva Steynen Gallery

Eva Steynen Gallery Distinguishes itself by rather curatorial shows often with a museal character. The purpose is to show and promote contemporary art.

The gallery works closely with small roster of artists, hosting an annual program of solo shows, performances, artist editions, salons and thematic group shows. 'A nice place to make discoveries'

Eva Steynen.Deviation(s) was founded in 2013. Situated in the upcoming east-side of Antwerp, on the ground floor of a 19th century mansion with a garden, the gallery is known as a nice place to make dis

coveries. Eva Steynen works closely with a small group of mid-career and emerging artists, Belgian based and international, and presents an annual program of solo shows, performances, artist editions, salons and thematic group projects. The visitor is invited to discover, reflect and connect. After having realized various exhibition projects as a nomadic independent curator in Antwerp, Eva Steynen established the gallery in her parental home. Next to the solo shows, the rather curatorial projects evolve from a philosophical enquiry and a curiosity for aspects of the event in the artist’s act. Building a sustainable trust-based relation between artists and gallerist, the latter being a care-taker for the arts, the purpose is 'to grow well together'. To aim and think together by organizing and creating a connection between artists, gallery, collectors, curators and art lovers. The commercial aspects of a gallery may never invade the artistic process, hence Eva Steynen.Deviation(s) distinguishes itself by rather risk-taking and curatorial shows often with a museal character. Eva Steynen.Deviation(s) is a member of Antwerp Art and co-organiser of BORGER, a dynamic group of galleries and art institutions in the north and east district of Antwerp. Represented artists: Marie Julia Bollansée, Francis Denys, Benoît Félix, Laure Forêt, Aurélie Gravas, Nick Hullegie, Fred Michiels, Marieke Van Wuytswinkel.

WANNES LECOMPTE x JAZZ MIDDELHEIM

Today Saturday 23 May and Monday 25 May.

At Jazz Middelheim, Wannes Lecompte brings together music and visual art in a series of unique live performances.

During the festival concerts, today and Monday, Lecompte will create watercolours on paper while the musicians perform, resulting in a series of small artist booklets. In parallel, he enters into dialogue with the musicians through two large-scale paintings created live beside the stage.

Alongside his painting practice, Wannes Lecompte is known for his live improvisations with various jazz musicians in the series Different Pieces.

“What is beautiful about jazz is that neither the listener nor the musician fully knows what will emerge.” This sense of wonder towards jazz and improvisation is deeply rooted in Lecompte’s work. Like the musicians he collaborates with, Lecompte approaches painting through rhythm, intuition, colour, and improvisation.

As a colourist, his canvases unfold unpredictably, where the final image remains unknown until the very last moment.

Come experience at Parc Den Brandt in Antwerp, how jazz becomes visible.

Thanks for videos
