Two years after MISSING, Noah Latif Lamp returns to Antwerp with a new body of paintings developed between the former Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. CHEMTRAILS explores a world shaped by crisis, paranoia, surveillance, and the erosion of trust — where even the sky becomes a contested surface of projection and control.

Through subtle, atmospheric paintings, Lamp reflects on how permanent states of emergency alter not only politics, but perception itself.

Curated by Dorothee Dupuis and presented at MMAC (Museo Morelense de Arte Contemporáneo Juan Soriano), this exhibition unfolds Sone’s ongoing exploration of landscape as a space where observation, memory, and construction intersect. From dense environments to carefully structured pictorial surfaces, Jungle invites us to move between immersion and distance — between the lived terrain and its transformation through image and installation.

David Shongo — Café Kuba (2025)
@ IFFR 2026 until Feb 7!

As an artist working in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, filmmaker, artist and composer operates within a constantly shifting political and social landscape. The recent escalation of conflict in eastern Congo – where M23 rebels seized major cities such as Goma and Bukavu in early 2025 – affects daily life and limits the space to work, think and collaborate. Shongo therefore moves between the roles of artist, witness and at times refugee, searching for flexible modes of creation that fit this reality.

Café Kuba (2025) is a direct response to these circumstances. It follows a coffee vendor through Kinshasa, as the city becomes a living memory: the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, foreign interference and recurrent uprisings continue to shape the present.

After winning the Main Prize State of the ART(ist) at Ars Electronica 2025 and selections at DOK Leipzig, Café Kubawill be presented as one of the four main immersive installations at IFFR’s Katoenhuis (30.01–07.02.26).

An immersive cinematic installation following a coffee vendor through nocturnal Kinshasa, where sound, movement, and urban life unfold as living memory—shaped by colonial history, political struggle, and resistance.

Jimi Hendrix’s Hey Joe reached 1970s Czechoslovakia on worn bootleg cassettes—copied from a single vinyl that circulated through the black-market burzy in Prague. For a whole generation growing up under post-’68 oppression, the cracks, hisses and tape noise became part of the music itself.
Decades later, Pavel Büchler realized that the real “Hey Joe” he remembered wasn’t the song, but the damaged surface noise wrapped around it.
Now, forty years on, he recovers that memory by removing all the music from a clean pressing—leaving only the scratches and hiss of a record that never existed, yet everyone of his generation in Prague once heard.

The works in this exhibition stand, in the precise overlap between Samuel Beckett and John Cage – between endurance and attention, silence and chance. If Beckett and Cage transformed absence into experience, Büchler offers its home-recorded version: the precise yet absent experience of nothing happening.

The concept of African Intelligence emerges from a rich intellectual landscape marked by tension, resilience, and renewal. It calls for a rethinking of how knowledge, innovation, and creativity are defined and transmitted. Inspired by thinkers such as Cheikh Anta Diop, it highlights the continuity of African epistemologies, philosophical, scientific, and artistic, as living systems that have shaped humanity’s collective history.

We are thrilled to announce that Café Kuba (2025, 29 min), directed by David Shongo, has been officially selected for the International Competition Documentary Film section at DOK Leipzig 2025, taking place from 27 October to 2 November 2025 in Leipzig, Germany. The film will have its world premiere in this prestigious context, joining a curated lineup of documentary work engaging critical questions of memory, visibility, and urban life.
