Our mechanics just found metal shavings in this N**i tank engine 🛠️😬

Not exactly the diagnosis you want to hear.

Something inside isn't happy, so our mechanics are digging into this StuG III F/8's original Maybach HL120 engine to find out why 🔍

Quick backstory: this thing was built as an assault gun, but its low profile and brutal gun made it a tank killer too. StuG units alone wrecked around 20,000 enemy tanks before spring 1944 💥

This F/8 has a longer barrel than earlier versions. Only 3 of the 3,334 built survived the war. This is one of them 🏆

Any guesses what's causing the metal shavings? 👇

🚛 Test drive!

This Ford CMP just got a thorough overhaul of its V8 engine. Time for the first test run of this 3-ton, four-wheel-drive truck.

The Ford CMP (Canadian Military Pattern) was one of the most widely used Canadian military trucks during WWII. Ford and Chevrolet built thousands of these near-identical vehicles for the Allies. The main difference? The engine.

This particular one rolled off the line at a Ford plant and tops out at around 80 km/h.

🔍 Reveal time!

A few weeks ago, we asked you to guess what this mystery piece was, while our team cleaned it and began its restoration. The answer: it's part of the 7,62 cm Sockelflak L/30, a German anti aircraft gun from the First World War, made using a captured Russian barrel.

⚙️ Unlike earlier anti aircraft pieces, this was a purpose built weapon, fitted with sighting instruments advanced enough to track the variables needed for effective anti aircraft fire.

🛠️ Only around 120 were ever made by Krupp, between December 1917 and March 1918.

🏛️ Now fully reassembled, this unique survivor of late WWI German air defence will join the Military Museum in Brussels following its restoration at Bastogne Barracks.

The Kübelwagen is back and on display in our Battle of the Bulge hall!

After thorough engine maintenance, this iconic vehicle is back in its place. Its name refers to its bucket-shaped seats, a simple design that proved itself time and again during the war.

Between 1940 and 1945, around 55,000 units rolled off the production line, active in almost every Wehrmacht campaign. Our example still carries its original camouflage colors and markings from the 12th SS Panzer Division.

Come see it up close at Bastogne Barracks! 🏛️

One event down, one more to go! 🇬🇧

After an incredible time at TANKFEST in Bovington, our Sherman Jumbo is back on the road. 🚛

A big thank you to everyone at for taking such great care of our tank during its stay. It was a pleasure to see the Sherman on display alongside so many historic vehicles.

Now it’s time for the next adventure! Operation Market Harborough will be the second UK event our Sherman rolls into this summer, and we can’t wait to see it there.

Will you be joining us on 1 & 2 August? 👋

New arrival at Bastogne Barracks 🇮🇹

Please welcome the newest addition to our collection: an Italian SPA TL 37 artillery tractor!

The TL 37 was built from 1938 onward, with around 3,500 units produced across all variants. This tractor was a workhorse for the Italian army during the Second World War. Its four wheel steering gave it excellent off road capability.

This is also a first for us: the very first Italian vehicle to enter the War Heritage Institute collections.

Come see it in person at Bastogne Barracks!
