LAGE EGAL is a non-commercial project space co-founded and run by Berlin-based French artist and curator Pierre Granoux. Since 2010 LAGE EGAL exists as an artist's studio as well as a place to experiment with different forms of display in close collaboration with artists and guest curators. LAGE EGAL can be read identically from both sides, making it a perfect name for the space: Pierre Granoux al

so organizes off-site exhibitions in different locations, private and public spaces, in Berlin or anywhere else. LAGE EGAL translates from German to "Location doesn't matter", and it definitely doesn't: it is all about the quality of the artwork and the idea behind it.

The artist presents a painting of surfaces as a process. Through the repetition of numerous layers of color and their dilution until they are nearly erased, the pictorial field appears as a stratified structure rather than a fixed plane. The surface of the canvas is not given; it is consciously and meticulously constructed over time, recording both the addition and the removal of layers.

The canvas becomes an interval, an inframince: a space where the material process and perception intersect. The work resists immediacy, unfolding gradually over time and to the sensitive viewer.

LAST WEEK WITHDRAW .freitasjoao

The works presented here proceed with a simple gesture: remove to make appear. JOÃO FREITAS works with materials rejected by the packaging industry, notably composite papers and surfaces from Tetra Pak. These supports, designed for the rapid circulation of goods, become fields of intervention. Their initial function is neutralized. Their surface is reopened.

Scrape, use, strip: work does not add to the material, it subtracts it. Each intervention removes a layer, thinns the surface, reveals an underlying structure. What appears is not an applied image, but an extracted image. The visible is the result of a loss. The drawing is born from the removal.

AVEC LE SOUTIEN DE KULTUR | LX — ARTS COUNCIL LUXEMBOURG

With SOFT MATTER, Franck Miltgen explores the gap between appearance and physical experience. Forms evoke mineral weight and stability, yet reveal unexpected softness upon contact. This shift unsettles perception, exposing how vision anticipates — and misjudges — matter. Sculpture becomes a space of doubt, where material is no longer a certainty, but a hypothesis.

A number of soft textile objects are installed directly on the gallery floor, accompanied by their smaller-scale models or mock-ups, displayed opposite them on the wall. This spatial arrangement recalls processes of prototyping and fashion design, where the finished object coexists with its matrix.

Positioned at the intersection of sculpture, image, and furniture, the works present themselves as elements of comfort and domestic use. Yet this promise is immediately displaced: the body is invited, but never fully accommodated. Touch becomes central, entering into tension with the conventions of display and value traditionally attached to artworks.

Rounded volumes, textile surfaces, and warm tones suggest softness and intimacy. However, deliberately unstable ergonomics introduce a subtle bodily dissonance, revealing a gap between apparent function and actual use.

FRANCK MILTGEN’s practice unfolds through a sequence of translations — from mineral imprint to relief, painting, image, and finally industrially knitted textile. The material operates as a skin: inherently close to the body, yet distanced through mechanical production. Through this continuous shift between model and object, original and reproduction, Pebblequestions hierarchies of value, regimes of perception, and our physical relationship to form.

Clara Bahlsen (*1978 Hannover, Germany) lives and works in Berlin. In her artistic practice, she investigates how relationships and states of relation can be translated into visual forms. Her photographs, installations, and books transform interpersonal dynamics into dense, multi-layered image-worlds.

Central points of departure are found objects and memory objects from her personal archive. Some objects are carefully researched, others spontaneously integrated. Through their staging in still lifes—the interplay of different pictorial levels, captured photographically in analogue form—images emerge that condense reality and transform it into an independent visual language.

Bahlsen studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and was part of the post-graduate class of Prof. Ute Mahler and
Robert Lyons at the Ostkreuz School of Photography, Berlin. Her works are shown internationally, including at the Kunstverein Hannover, the Kommunale Galerie
Berlin, Photo Saint-Germain, Paris, and IACK Kanazawa, Japan. She has received numerous awards and grants, among them a grant from the German Künstlerbund and the Aenne Biermann Prize for Contemporary German Photography.
