SECOND SKIN — What We Let Show

Artist spotlight: Lisette van Hoogenhuyze

Where the rest of Second Skin stays close to raw linen, powdery pastels, bone-white plaster, Lisette van Hoogenhuyze answers in colour: red, cobalt, moss green, tufted in thick thread and painted across raw fabric. Her practice moves between textile, ceramic and paint, drawing on mythological imagery, hands and feet as symbols of carrying and being carried, screens and hangings that shift between concealment and exhibition. Identity, here, is layered, changing, built through relation.

Artist spotlight: Hanne Arends

A face stares out from an empty hallway, a ceiling fan turning overhead, doors closed on either side. In Second Skin, HANNE ‘s Collective Loneliness addresses a paradox of our time: more connected than ever, yet living through an epidemic of loneliness. Her anthropomorphic sculptures and drawings give shape to this growing solitude within our over-connected society, isolation rendered strangely familiar, almost domestic.

SECOND SKIN — What We Let Show
Artist spotlight: toufan hosseiny

A single bloom, hand-stitched in blush and rose, opens across gingham and raw linen: the surface of Toufan Hosseiny‘s quilts is all softness. Her series When I met you I saw myself as another, after Siri Hustvedt, is dyed with everyday food scraps, peelings and rinds turned into powdery tones. But elsewhere in the same works, faces emerge with hollowed eyes and mouths, forms recalling Munch’s scream. As the natural dyes fade with time, so does the image: a slow dilution of identity into the care of another.

Artist spotlight: Juliette Lemontey

In Juliette Lemontey’s work, faces rarely meet your eye. Backs turned, bodies leaning into each other, hair as the only certainty, in scenes of quiet intimacy painted on old bedsheets, reinvented with charcoal, walnut ink and artisanal oil paint. It’s the faces, so often erased or hidden, that carry her subject: what we choose to show of ourselves, and what we keep in the shadows.
