Alas! On Sunday, we dismantled “A Place Apart” with the artists. The house feels bare now.

We look back fondly on this exhibition with Ane Vester and Lucile Bertrand and wish them both continued success in the future.

As a matter of fact, you can still visit “Where The Mice Live” at Convent in Ghent until Saturday 26 October. There you can see a work by Ane Vester in collaboration with artist Hans Demeulenaere.

Last Saturday, the walkthrough with artists Ane Vester and Lucile Bertrand was packed. There was a rich interaction between the audience and the artists. New insights were shared, and warm encounters took place in the wake of the tour.

It was wonderful to be able to conclude this exceptional exhibition in such a way, with a bang!

Lucile Bertrand stands next to the score for ‘Chanter comme des oiseaux (Singing like birds)’. The artist pays tribute to songs from endangered or extinct bird species. She has transcribed some of these songs in her own handwriting. These musical scores invite you, the visitor, to interpret them and urge you to take care of the planet and its inhabitants.

You can try interpreting them alongside Lucile Bertrand on Saturday 18 October at 3 pm. The artist will guide you through the ‘A Place Apart’ exhibition.

Entry is free, but registration is requested. The spoken language will be English, but simultaneous translation into French and Dutch is possible.

Ane Vester is leaning and resting against the wall, as are her two sculptures. The wooden beams were brought over from Denmark and have never been exhibited in Belgium before. They punctuate the space and guide the viewer’s gaze.

Come and walk alongside the artist and discover the exhibition ‘A Place Apart’ on Saturday 18 October at 3pm.

Entry is free, but registration is requested for this tour with the artists. The spoken language will be English, but simultaneous translation into French and Dutch is possible.

“After each war someone needs to clean up. (...) Somebody needs to haul a beam to support the wall, somebody has to glaze the window and hang the door on its hinges.” (quote from the poem ‘The End and the Beginning’ by Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska).
In a scene from the film ‘Les inoubliables’, women recite poems about war from different periods, set to
the music of their own language.

Come and watch the film by artist Lucile Bertrand at the exhibition ‘A Place Apart’ at Queens Brussels.

Images: still from ‘Les inoubliables’ (The unforgettables), 2024, film excerpt (scene 4 – Wars), subtitled in English, 12min
