We're wishing you a warm holiday season filled with togetherness! 🎄

As we celebrate this Christmas Eve, we'd like to take the moment to focus on Le Soir by Léon Frédéric, a touchingly simple interior scene of humble folk, almost as a theatrical presentation; there is an intense, almost sacred quality in this depiction.

Frédéric depicted working-class living conditions, but he chose to show the tranquil strength of less advantaged communities rather than focusing on poverty. In Le Soir,
that strength is manifested in the suggestion of comforting silence, in the light that breathes life into a black and white interior and in the composition itself, the characters being set inside an enclosed, quasi-sacred space. Here, the meal has become a ritual, the lamp an ever-lasting light and the body position and gaze of each
individual seem suffused with a collective memory.

There is a type of monumentality in this everyday scene, a grandeur in the ordinary.

The moment is so lovely with light,
In the garden, all around us;
The moment is so rare with purest light
In our hearts, deep within us.
– Émile Verhaeren, Les Heures claires (1896).

Spread across 5 rooms of Maison Hannon, the exhibition Echoes of Dreams remains open for visit.

The house encapsulates the fin-de-siècle spirit, in its ability to bring together, all the aesthetic, scientific and social aspiration, for dialogue between the arts, ideas, the sciences of an era in a state of transformation.

Introspective and dreamlike, Khnopff’s works form a universe of its own. 🫧

But what does his triptych L’Isolement (Isolation) entail? Let’s dive in!

Fernand Khnopff (1858–1921) was a Belgian Symbolist painter known for his refined, dreamlike depictions of solitude and ideal beauty. Through introspective figures and ethereal compositions, he created a world of silence and mystery, where emotion gives way to spiritual contemplation.

Read more about it in our exhibition’s catalogue ‘Echoes of Dreams’. Pre-orders now available via the link in bio. 🔗

As technology accelerates and cities keep expanding, meaning seems to slip away. Our realities, filled with noise and constant motion, feed our inner vertigo and confront us with the failure of promised ideals.

On the brink of the Industrial Revolution, 19th-century artists sought refuge in different artistic paths: realism, naturalism, and symbolism.

These paths don’t exclude each other; they overlap, merge, and respond to the same spiritual unease. The works and reflections born from them feel more urgent today than ever, echoing our own search for meaning in a rapidly shifting world.

Exhibition Echoes of Dreams
Now on view until 19.04.2026.
