“Love is lacking.
on political, religious, family, or romantic lives,
we’re reminded of its failure everyday.
Love is a mysterious, unreachable thing we obsess collectively about,
but we have not learnt the art of loving.
And lack of love is lethal.”

Drawing inspiration from Alex Coles’s essay «Tainted Love – From Nina Simone to Kendrick Lamar», this exhibition adopts its title from Soft Cell’s rendition of the 1965 Gloria Jones track, which gained widespread popularity in the 80s during the HIV crisis. Coles’s insightful inquiry into the twisted romantic ballad reflects on both its historical roots and modern relevance, serving as a guiding force, together with Bell Hooks’ love letter “All About Love”, for exploring various forms of tainted love that remain prevalent in contemporary culture.

Let these works challenge your perspectives on love and its many dimensions. See you tonight ! ✨

🇨🇭SNEAK PEEK 👀

Into LaRissa Roger’s studio where she crafted the stunning pieces we’re showing at LISTE Art Fair 🔜 in Basel.

For , LaRissa dives into the aesthetics of excess and leisure, questioning who gets to enjoy these luxuries. Inspired by Fragonard’s “Les Hasards Heureux de L’Escarpolette” (“The Swing”), she examines the racial and gender dynamics of this iconic 18th-century French painting. Its hedonistic vibes and intricate details make it a Rococo masterpiece, originally created to satisfy the whims of the aristocracy. 🦋✨

🏃‍♀️ There are still a few days left to catch Thom Trojanowski’s solo exhibition « A Tree; My Favourite Life So Far. » 👀

🔛 Until this Saturday, May 25th

« Trojanowski’s paintings, primarily figurative, incorporate abstract elements reminiscent of the early 20th century, drawing inspiration from post-impressionist artists like Gustav Klimt and contemporary painters such as Peter Doig. A notable parallel can be drawn between the fusion of music and painting during this period, exemplified by Apollinaire’s introduction of the term Orphism to connect the two art forms. This connection is particularly noteworthy given Trojanowski’s background as a professional musician with the group The Cheek, infusing his artworks with a rhythmic flow, even if only instinctively. Moreover, Trojanowski employs color theories from Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist movements, utilizing the subjective nature of color to convey emotional depth and impact. «

✨ Thom Trojanowski’s piece, “This Window Pattern Shadowed on the Wall” (2024), is part of his ongoing solo show “A Tree: My Favourite Life So Far” 👀 Open until May 25th!

Thom’s recent paintings make nods to domestic settings: ceramic shards, modernist tile patterns, windows, gates, or fences, all contributing to a dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces, with each influencing the other. This standout piece features his wife, Stevie Dix, in her childhood bedroom, with the forest peeking through the window. It’s a nostalgic journey that blends past and present, urging us to reflect on environmental challenges and embrace a new ecological perspective. 🌿

Rich with forensic detail, Lundy’s sensorial and panoptical compositions subject the minutiae of daily events to the scrutiny of the artist’s augmented lens.”

✨ NOW ON ✨

Thom Trojanowski “A Tree; My Favourite Life So Far”
Through until 25 May, 2024

Drawing instinctively from late 19th-century artistic movements, wherein artists departed from strict realism to embrace a more sensitive interpretation of reality, Trojanowski’s compositions feature a diverse array of colors, forms, and textures intricately layered and juxtaposed. Utilizing techniques such as diluted and rubbed oil on canvas, he creates a tie-dye effect, contrasting with areas of thick paint infusing vibrancy into both biotic and abiotic elements. This dynamic materiality invites tactile exploration, echoing the artist’s experiences in the forest from a young age, and today intrinsic to his practice, while also paying homage to the history of painting.

✨ Art Brussels Gallery Night 🌙

We’re thrilled to invite you to the gallery this Wednesday, April 24th, for an exceptional experience : Thom Trojanowski’s solo exhibition, “A Tree: My Favourite Life So Far”, intertwines with Owen Pratt’s captivating soundscapes.

🗓️Wednesday, April 24th
📌From 6 to 9 pm
On the eve of Art Brussels’ opening.

🎙 Owen Pratt has dedicated the last 15 years to his craft as a musician, recordist, and mix engineer. Beyond his technical expertise, Pratt is also a composer for film, dance, and installation, while maintaining a live performance practice. His collaborative works have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, including the ICA, Hayward Gallery, Centre Pompidou, Serpentine, and Tate Modern. Specialising in experimental synthesis, Pratt is intrigued by unconventional approaches to noise and sound creation.

Last year, he orchestrated a unique sound piece by embedding microphones into trees, yielding deep, eerie creaks reminiscent of whale calls. This piece imbues the trees with an anthropomorphic essence, bringing an additional layer of organic motion to Trojanowski’s paintings.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience “A Tree: My Favorite Life So Far”, in this unique setting ! 🔊
